This past Friday April 4th was an inspirational night – filled with hope, enthusiasm, and remembrance. There were over 550 participants, on 65 teams, and over $30,000 was raised!! Despite the cold weather, students, faculty, survivors, and supporters all braced the cold and relayed around the pond. The evening started with barbeque, field games, live music, and of course Tupper made an appearance!
One of the most touching moments of the night was watching the Kicking for Causes demonstration. There were so many boards for the karate kids to break, and they did amazing! All in memory or support of a loved one, or simply for the fight against cancer.
As the night went on, Relay for Life moved inside with the Luminaria Ceremony. It was touching to hear the stories of survival from some of our own Bryant students and faculty. Their inspirational and moving experiences reminded us why we participate in Relay for Life. As we broke glow sticks for our loved ones, it showed how much cancer affects each and every person’s life. Everyone was silent as we did a lap around the Fisher Student Center in honor of those who have fought or are fighting against cancer.
Celebrating the survivors at Relay for Life.
After the ceremony, Her Campus lightened the mood with a funny photo booth! Everyone loved getting silly with the dress up items we brought along. The entertainment continued with Zumba, Just Dance, free whoopee pies, bingo, a scavenger hunt, pizza, and more! WJMF did a great job being DJ!
Another touching moment was the Fight Back Ceremony at the end of Relay for Life. It was definitely a long night and it was getting hard to stay awake, but it was worth it to symbolize the never ending fight against cancer. A special thanks to everyone who stayed through to the end!
