Spotlight: Danielle Tierney, Executive Director of St. Jude Up ‘til Dawn

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Bryant chapter.

Her Campus was extremely excited to sit down with Bryant University’s St. Jude Up ‘til Dawn Event Executive Director, Danielle Tierney, to learn more about herself, her love for this organization, and the event. This is an amazing opportunity for Bryant students to become more involved on campus by participating in such an amazing event. The event is November 9th, starting at midnight, in the Bryant MAC.

Name: Danielle Tierney

Hometown: Raynham, MA

Major/Minor: Marketing/Communication

Position for St. Jude Up ‘til Dawn: Executive Director

Her Campus: Why do you love St. Jude?

Danielle Tierney: There are so many reasons to love St. Jude. I am very selective with organizations that I donate my time and money to, because I believe that non-profits should be a focus more on the cause itself than making money, or having a huge CEO salary. St. Jude is an amazing charity because when a family visits the hospital – they pay NOTHING for travel, treatment, food, housing – nothing! Can you imagine having a child diagnosed with cancer, being in the worst situation you can possibly imagine, and now you have hundreds of thousands of dollars of bills that you can’t afford? St. Jude families never receive a bill. They get to focus on what really matters – their CHILD! St. Jude research and treatment plans are also freely shared around the world to every doctor in every hospital. They are one of the leading pediatric cancer research institutes in the world and with cutting edge technology and research, children with cancer in your own hometown are benefiting from St. Jude’s protocols today. St. Jude is such an amazing place and I love dedicating my time to helping Bryant help these kids! Pediatric Cancer is NOT RARE – and we have to do everything we can to help stop this monster from taking more lives. For that, I love St. Jude!

HC: What is the event?

DT: St. Jude Up ‘til Dawn is an overnight celebration event! You and five friends raise a minimum of $600 as a team ($100 each), and come to our event to celebrate your fundraising accomplishments with a free t-shirt for reaching your goal! Our goal is to raise $80,000 this year as a school. Raised around $74,000 last year so I know we can beat it. At the event we have tons of free food – Ronzio’s, Chipotle, Moe’s, Panera, etc. On top of that we spend the night participating in challenges, learning about St. Jude, and having opportunities to win cool prizes!

HC: Where and when is the event?

DT: The event is November 9th in the MAC starting at midnight, going until 6am! We stay up all night for the families that spend sleepless nights hoping their child sees another morning.

HC: Why should everyone attend?

DT: Straight up – this is a really cool event! We have a ton of awesome incentives between food and prizes, and the event itself is beyond fun every year. Besides that point, St. Jude is an amazing organization. They have changed, in just 50 years, the survival rate of childhood cancer from 20% to 80%! When your grandparents were young, being diagnosed with childhood cancer was basically an immediate death sentence. Today St. Jude is providing hope for children, and Bryant can help being a part of that by signing up, fundraising, and coming to our event!

HC: How can we sign up?

DT: Click HERE, fill out the information, and sign up today!
