It’s finally starting to feel like spring outside! As the winter fades, we begin to see more and more people outside running or soaking up the sun. We all know that summer is fast approaching and what better way to greet the summer months than with a healthier, more fit, and toned beach body. The first place to start is in the kitchen- hence,we are what we eat. Fruits are a great way of acquiring different nutritional value needed such as vitamin c, potassium, fiber, and others.
Just as fashion trends change within seasons, so do fruits. As winter comes to an end, we can trade in our kiwifruit, pears, grapefruit, papaya, and tangerines for the new fruits of the season. This season features; apricots, cherries, melon, mango, strawberries, pineapple and limes- what every college student needs on-hand as we ring in the spring.
Although some may deter from the fresh fruit option in the store because of the limited shelf life, there are a couple ways to keep these from turning bad so quickly. One way to keep fruits fresh is to start by cutting the different fruits into cubes and storing them in the freezer. The cold from the freezer will guarantee freshness for a few more days or up to another week. The other way to store fresh fruit that can last you through the week is by preparing them into cubes and squeezing the juice of 1-2 lemons over them. This will prevent browning and keep the fruits fresh through the week after having cut them and you will still have the fresh fruit taste!
