10 Reasons Why Summer Is The Best Season

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BU chapter.

This past winter I wrote an article about why I hate winter as a New Englander. The picture wouldn’t be complete without also talking about my favorite season, and I figure that this is the closest I can get to writing about it at the right time of year. So to cancel out that negativity and properly say goodbye, here are the top 10 reasons why summer is the best season of them all.

You’re able to do something other than study.

Summer means taking a break. Working instead of going to school. Taking a summer class at a different college. Whether you had an internship in an entirely new city or chilled at home, summer is the time to take a breather from your normal college life.

You can enjoy the beach.

Being able to actually go in the water instead of just sitting near it and freezing (or probably avoiding it).

You can have your very own summer adventure.

There’s just so much more to do with your free time in the summer. For the insane stories we’ll remember our whole lives, it helps if it’s bearable to go outside. To get lost in a new city. To drive across the country. To walk around our hometowns at 3 am.

You have the opportunity to see old friends and family again.

Even if you don’t go home for the summer, it’s nice to be able to have a break in the transition to adulthood and figure out what might happen after college.

You can actually have fun in the great outdoors.

Outdoor spaces come to life, from the beach to campgrounds to music festivals to amusement parks. I don’t know about you, but driving by an empty outdoor space in the winter covered in dirty snow and ice doesn’t quite have the same effect.

You don’t have to walk around with a puffy blob covering all your cute outfits.

You actually get to show off your carefully curated outfits rather than hiding them under your oversized parka. Enough said.

You can jam out in the car.

Blasting music hits different with the windows down and the wind blowing your hair back. Boring car trips become memorable rides.

You can stare at the beautiful sunsets.

Sunsets are just more enjoyable later at night— they’re the pretty end to a perfect day. In the winter, they’re more of a warning: dark is coming before you’re even home yet.

You can eat well again.

The food! From ice cream and food trucks around every corner to all the fruit that’s finally in season again— it’s easier to eat healthy, fresh foods when you aren’t freezing and dying for comfort food.

You can live your best, healthy life.

It’s not flu season anymore. Missing out on our lives because of sickness becomes less of a problem.

I was lucky enough to have had an amazing summer for all of these reasons, but I’m excited for fall and to be back to my normal routine. But let’s be real, is it summer 2020 yet?
