11 Things All Psychology Majors Know to be True

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BU chapter.

Let’s face it. Psychology is one of the most popular majors, especially at Boston University, and with that there comes a certain understanding between all of us. Here are 11 things psych majors know to be true.

1. When you walk into your first Psych 101 lecture and realize there are hundreds of you. And this is only one of the sections…

2. There are probably less than ten guys in your class.

This is an accurate depiction of a typical psychology class.

3. When you learn about the same social experiments in every class.

You could probably tell someone about the Standford Prison experiement better than Phillip Zimbardo himself.

4. When someone finds out you’re studying Psychology and assumes you can immediately diagnose them.

“Yeah, it’s a little more involved than that…”

5. Realizing everything you do has some psychological theory behind it.

6. Knowing that you probably have years of graduate or medical school ahead of you.

7. “But psychology isn’t a real science.” “Oh, it’s a soft science.” “Well, it is the easiest major.”

8. The emotional pain that is Physiological Psychology.

Tip: memorize everything, including diagrams. Especially diagrams.

9. Learning about every disorder and trying not to diagnose yourself.

10. Trying to find a research position for the first time.

You must have five years of experience for an entry level position.

11. So what are you going to do after graduation?

Okay, this one applies to all collegiettes, regardless of major.

Stick together psychology major collegiettes! After all, groups are important to human survival.
