3 Tips to Manage Your Mid-Semester Blues

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BU chapter.

It’s that time of year: the semester’s tantalizingly close to coming to an end, Thanksgiving is around the corner, and all you want to do is wrap yourself in a fuzzy blanket and eat pumpkin pie. There’s only one thing you need to do—ace your midterms and prepare for finals. Mid-semester blues is real and can be a huge deterrent to your academic success. Here are three ways you can finish off the semester strong and grab those A’s you know you deserve!

Plan out the rest of the semester

It may seem unnecessary to plan all the way till the end of the semester, but this gives you insight into how much you need to study per day until you take your finals or any other exams. Dividing your work into chunks will also give you a headstart in class, so you actually know what you’re going to be learning that day. Plus, an early start means you won’t have to chug three Red Bulls the night before the test while speeding through six chapters for the first time!

Take (Zoom) breaks

Because of the pandemic, we’ve all been forced to shift to online learning. This basically means our eyes are glued to some sort of screen—whether it may be your laptop or your phone—24/7. It’s super important to give your eyes a break from Zoom meetings. Take a walk, work out at home, or dive into your favorite hobby. In short, do anything that doesn’t involve screens. Your eyes will thank you the next time you pull off an all-nighter for a final!

Socialize Virtually

I know— you miss your college friends as much as the next student does. These are tough times we’re living in, and so it’s even more important to stay in touch with your friends. Call them up, schedule virtual game nights (might I suggest Among Us), or just have a video call! Talking with friends helps you destress and gives you someone of your age to talk to.

We have about a month before the semester ends, so it’s super important to stay focused, put in the hours, and ace your finals.

This semester has definitely been an offbeat one in so many ways, and we have to remember that we’re all doing the best we can to concentrate on ourselves and our futures in the midst of a pandemic. You got this!
