Many of us have been on makeup TikTok at one point or another. For the last year or so I’ve consistently been shown makeup reviews on my for you page every time I open the app. Whether it’s my childhood dream of becoming a makeup artist or my actual obsession with searching for the perfect makeup products, I’ve been effectively influenced to buy these five products.

Physicians formula butter bronze

The support for this product began long before TikTok was born, but after watching numerous videos on the app raving about this bronzer I finally caved and bought it from my local Target this past summer. While I initially used it for its intended purpose, bronzer, I also tried it as eyeshadow. I cannot count the number of compliments I got about it when I wore it as eyeshadow; the shade is really pretty. It’s the perfect shade for me as both eyeshadow and bronzer, and I will be repurchasing this product again.

Real Techniques Beauty Sponge

Nearly a decade ago the Beauty Blender took the makeup community by storm and, of course, I decided to buy one which I used and loved for years. However, the $20 per sponge price tag at that age made quite a dent, and eventually, I began searching for alternatives. Fast forward to quarantine, and I needed a new makeup sponge. Conveniently, my for-you-page knew that too and I saw a girl using the Real Techniques sponge. I looked it up and saw that my local Target had them so I ordered for pick-up and grabbed one. As a Beauty Blender lover for years, I, unfortunately, have to admit that the RT sponge is better, and a lot easier on the budget (especially as a college student). Not only does it soak up less of my makeup, but I think it does a smoother job blending my makeup together.

Covergirl “Skin Milk” Foundation

Growing up in competitive dance, I wore some heavy foundation for hours on end. Therefore, foundation and I have never exactly been friends. But, as makeup trends have focused on more natural looks, the industry has released many lighter formulas. So, when I saw @briannachickenfry on TikTok raving about the Covergirl Skin Milk Foundation, I decided to give it a try. Not only is it a vegan formula, but it also is free of many chemicals like formaldehyde and talc. It’s a really pretty dewy finish and blends into the skin so nicely. As someone who has normal skin, I worried that it might be too dewy of a finish for me, but I was wrong. With a little setting powder, it stays all day. I can conclude it’s definitely worth the hype.

Maybelline “Fit Me” Concealer

I love the Nars “Radiant Creamy” Concealer, but I do not love the price tag. As I searched for a cheaper dupe I came across a recommendation for the Maybelline “Fit Me” Concealer on TikTok. Not only does the bottle packaging look somewhat similar, but the applicator also looks like the Nars product, but at a fraction of the price. The formula feels pretty similar, but I would say that the Maybelline formula is maybe just slightly thinner — not enough to make a noticeable difference. The finish is really natural and blends easily into the skin with medium coverage. So do I think it’s a dupe? Absolutely.

E.l.f. Clear Brow and Lash Mascara

As someone with naturally thick eyebrows, I’ve never spent a lot of time searching for brow products. However, the recent soap brow trend got me interested in trying something new. So after seeing 3+ videos of girls’ everyday makeup routines using the e.l.f. Clear Brow Gel, I decided to try it out, especially since it was $3. It was strange using it at first since my eyebrows felt like they were gelled to my face, but eventually, I got used to it. While I like how the product works, the product did not do much for me overall. Using the brow gel didn’t really change the shape of my brows because of the way they are naturally, so I don’t see myself repurchasing this product in the future. But for anyone who is searching for an affordable brow gel, I would recommend it to others.

Not all TikTok recommendations are home runs, but out of the ones that I have purchased, many have been. These five products are worthy of a recommendation. Thanks, TikTok!
