I am on a constant search for funny shows but the search gets infinitely more difficult the longer it goes on. Sometimes, I feel like I’ve met my cap on genuinely funny tv shows that I haven’t watched yet. When that happens though, it usually means that either I will discover a new show to binge or a new funny show will be released relatively soon. Here are five genuinely funny TV shows that you will make your day!

Big Mouth

I know this might be a bit of an upset but I promise, this show is absolutely hilarious. The series follows a group of adolescent middle schoolers who deal with puberty and sexuality through the help of their “hormone monsters.” If it sounds graphic, it’s because it is. However, I genuinely don’t know if I’ve ever cackled more at any other show. Did I mention the show is animated? I mean, come on, I don’t think anything else has to be said.

Community

This one was a recent find, at least for me. Apparently, I’m extremely late to the wave and everybody on earth, besides me, has already discovered the joy that is Community. A former lawyer and an unlikely group of mismatched community college students become friends and have a slew of comical adventures across six seasons. The premise doesn’t sound super appealing (I get it, that’s why I was so late to watch the show) but it’s really amazing the things that this talented cast can make funny.

New Girl

Schmidt. Enough said. I know it’s basic, but he really is one of my favorite tv characters. Even beyond the wonder that is Schmidt, New Girl packs a solid cast. My favorites include Winston and Nick but everybody on the cast supplies a solid laugh ratio. The show revolves around Zooey Deschanel’s character, Jess, moving into an apartment with three guys and the ensuing shenanigans that they all get into. It’s very Friendsesque but I’d argue, much funnier.

The Office

Ahh, The Office, a quintessential American classic. Michael Scott carries the show on his back. He’s backed up by none other than Dwight, Jim and Pam, along with a series of supporting characters. The show basically invented the mockumentary series phenomenon. I know there’s an original British version of the show but I just can’t bring myself to believe that there could be anything that could outdo the U.S. version. It’s that good.

Shameless

Shameless is a prime example of realistic, dry humor displayed in an awesome television series. The show follows the Gallaghers as they struggle to make ends meet and find themselves. The show is spearheaded by Fiona and Frank. It is at varying times hilarious and heartbreaking. I’m sure you’ve heard how good the show is and believe me, it absolutely lives up to the hype. Just give it a watch.

Any of these shows will give you endless laughs and will provide the perfect procrastination method for midterm season.
