5 Old Shows on Netflix and Hulu to Rewatch Right Now

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BU chapter.

Nostalgia is something we all crave; it’s the feeling of being home, safe. And for a lot of people, TV shows give them a strong sense of nostalgia and comfort. So, I’ve collected some of the shows that personally bring me a lot of happy memories, and they’re all free on streaming services! So, kick off your shoes, lounge back on the couch, and get ready for these oldies (but goodies)!

Sabrina: The Teenage Witch (Hulu)

This was one of my absolute favorite shows as a kid. Just to clarify, this is the 90s sitcom version—not the newer remake on Netflix. If I’m being honest, the real reason why I loved this show was because I wanted to be a witch, so watching Sabrina navigate her life as a witch while going through relationships and high school was like watching my dream come true. I personally think that this 90s sitcom is way better than the Netflix remake because it’s funny, relatable, and it’s got a great plot that never gets old. The newer show just tries to downplay how fun it is to be a witch; it’s too serious. But the sitcom just brings me way back to sitting on the floor as a kid and being completely mesmerized by Sabrina and her powers. Not to mention, the original Harvey is extremely cute. Definitely a must-watch!

Gilmore Girls (Netflix)

Gilmore Girls is just one of those shows that makes you feel all warm and cozy inside. It’s basically the equivalent of drinking a nice warm cup of coffee or tea (and that’s not just because they drink coffee all the time in the show). Although it may be a bit boring at times, it’s so comforting watching Rory and Lorelai, because they deal with small-town issues in a small-town world. No matter what’s going on in their lives, Rory and Lorelai can always sit down with coffee from Luke’s or Chinese food from Al’s Pancake World and just have a good time. It’s definitely the ultimate comfort show, and it helps that all the men in it are simply beautiful.

America’s Next Top Model (Netflix and Hulu)

If you like reality TV like I do, this is a great show to watch. All of the photoshoots are so interesting and fun to watch, and it’s always a good time rooting for your favorite models. You become so attached to each person there (for better or for worse), and it’s so fun seeing who wins each competition and who goes home. Tyra and the other judges are brutal, and it’s definitely an entertaining glimpse into the model world. I always used to watch this show with my sister when I was younger, so rewatching it now with her just feels super nostalgic in the best way.

Dawson’s Creek (Netflix)

Dawson’s Creek is probably the first major love triangle show that I ever watched (followed by The Vampire Diaries). It set the foundation for all major teen soap dramas to follow, and it is simply iconic. It’s about friends falling for friends and all the drama that ensues as a result, and it is no doubt entertaining to watch. It’s about growing up and learning, which is something we all experience as teens. This is definitely one of those iconic shows that never gets old.

Sister Sister (Hulu and Netflix)

This is another one of those shows that I watched religiously as a kid. Tia and Tamera Mowry were icons to me and my sister, and we so badly wanted to be like them. The Sister Sister theme song is still ingrained in my head, and I will literally never forget it. Tia and Tamera also went on to star in Disney’s Twitches, which, as you can guess from my previous choice of shows, I absolutely loved. Anything witches-related is good for me, and my sister and I always wanted to be “twitches” too (“twin witches”). Tia and Tamera just bring back the best childhood memories for me, and I will always admire them.

I hope this list of nostalgic shows inspired you to check them out. Happy watching!
