5 Tips for Staying Healthy and Fit This Spring

By: Victoria Pierce

As the semester begins to whine down and we move closer and closer to finals (Ugh
) and summer (we’re almost there, really!), us colliegettes need to keep our bodies up to speed with our minds. It’s not unheard of to lose steam towards the end of the semester, but with spring finally upon us, it’s more important for you to be mindful of your health more than ever. Here are some fitness and health tips to help keep you on the right track.

1.Exercise outside

I really can’t believe that it’s gotten so nice outside so fast! This is the time to take advantage of it. Lace up your sneakers and take to the esplanade for a scenic run along the Charles River. Run with some friends, or fly solo. Getting out and getting active is the best way to relieve stress right before finals.

2.Try out a new fitness class

Get your blood pumping and those endorphins flowing by trying out a new fitness craze at a local studio, whether it be yoga, spinning, cross fit, Zumba, or barre aerobics (think ballerina). Again, another great way to relieve stress with a group of friends!

3.Don’t skip breakfast

This is one we’ve definitely heard a thousands times before, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t important. As the saying goes, breakfast really is the most important meal of the day. It puts you in the right frame of mind for the rest of the meals for your day, and it’s more likely that you’ll make healthier decisions. This doesn’t mean that you have to eat an entire full breakfast in the dining hall; yogurt with granola and a banana will do!

4.Be smart while studying

We’ve all been there. You’ll be studying late at night, and decide it’s a good idea to get your snack on (my roommates and I have totally ordered Domino’s at 1 a.m. will studying
.oops).  How about you reward yourself for studying with something that doesn’t involve food? Paint your nails, take a shower, watch a few videos on YouTube, or give yourself 15 minutes of time on Pinterest.

5.Water, water and more water

My water bottle is practically a third limb, and it should be the same for you! In order to stay healthy, you need to drink eight 8-ounce classes of water per day. Trust me, it’ll make you feel better, and more alert for class and studying, and will keep you from getting more easily sick.
