5 Ways You Know It’s Fall At BU

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BU chapter.

As the leaves change and the air cools, it’s clear that fall has arrived. However, at BU there are definitely some unique and specific signs that this season is finally upon us.

  1. The students from warm states freak out.

Everyone has that one friend from California or Florida who doesn’t seem to understand that there’s a season between summer and winter, or even any other season besides summer. It’s pretty obvious to spot who isn’t from around here when they show up to class in layers upon layers when it’s only 55° out.

  1. The ridiculous lines at Starbucks.

Suddenly October has arrived and it’s pumpkin spice everything. Combine that with the newfound chilly weather, and you get an endless line at Starbucks at seemingly all hours of the day. What used to be a quick run before class is now more of a mission, so make sure to leave yourself some extra time for your latte!

  1. The puddles in the CAS building.

It’s totally logical to want to walk indoors rather than face the dangerous combination of wind and rain that happens at BU. However, when everyone’s doing it, it can make a bit of a mess.  With all the puddles and slippery floors, sometimes it can feel like outside is the safer route.

  1. The seemingly endless Dunkin’ Donuts geofilters.

If it feels like every day you wake up with a new Dunkin’ Donuts Snapchat filter, odds are it’s probably fall. With options like “Dunkin’ Patch” and a jack-o-lantern face drinking iced coffee, they can be pretty tough to resist. Plus, for some reason it feels like they work for every photo.

  1. The Halloween hype.

As soon as fall hits, it seems like you can’t go anywhere without hearing people talking about Halloween costumes, parties, or plans.  Suddenly all the Halloween fanatics come out, including that one kid on your floor that insists on watching Halloweentown at least once during October. Once the holiday passes though, get ready for even more hype for Christmas.
