Winter can be magical— snow-covered trees, holiday treats and cute pom-pom hats. However, the wind is another story. It can be your worst enemy, cracking your lips and drying out any skin it comes in contact with. To avoid the winter harshness, here are some cheap, basic beauty hacks every collegiette needs to know!Â
1. Ultra Rich Lip BalmÂ
With winter approaching you want a thick, rich balm that will really moisturize your lips. Reapply balm every two or three hours throughout the day. When moisturizing your lips overnight, make sure to cover the outer lines of your lips no matter how messy it gets. Cracked lips are not fun. Using brands such as Blistex or Aquaphor are beneficial and cheap— a win-win!Â
2. Stock up on petroleum jellyÂ
Before going to bed, cover dry areas with Vaseline or any drugstore brand petroleum jelly. Cover your cracked heels and then put socks on to allow your feet to soak in the product. If your knuckles and cuticles are dry, cover them with jelly and put a thin pair of gloves on before getting some shut-eye! Do this daily for 15 minutes. Â
3. Following a daily routineÂ
You can never apply too much lotion. Get your hands on some in-shower body lotion and use a rich body wash. Even if you don’t have typically dry skin, using lotions and soaps that are made for extra dry skin types can be preventative and can keep your body soft. Using anything with shea butter can really heal your skin.Â
4. Never let someone say, “I can’t feel your face”
While it’s important to moisture your body, it’s important that you don’t skimp on your face. Use lotion before applying your foundation in order to avoid the product catching on your dry skin. Â
5. Apply moisturizing masksÂ
Before going to bed, use a moisturizing face mask! Leave it on for 20 minutes to allow your pores to soak in the extra moisture. Do a mask once a week to prevent your face from drying out.Â
6. Power of Dryer SheetsÂ
A trick to rid your hair of annoying static: dryer sheets! Rub them on your hair and walk away with a fresh scent. Â Â
