6 Ways to Make Your Winter Wardrobe Ready for Spring

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BU chapter.

With Punxsutawney Phil not seeing his shadow this February 2nd, I’m banking on an early spring this year. For all of us fashionistas it’s time to get a head start on spring shopping and planning for how we will transition your winter wardrobe into spring. Yes, I know it’s only February, but the sporadic weather in Boston has already been hinting that it’s time to make some major wardrobe shifts. One day the thermometer drops to the teens and the next it’s nearing 60. So, I’m here to provide you with a few ideas that will make you stand out this spring, plus I’m giving you an excuse to break out a few spring pieces early!

1) Break free from the dull colors that are making you blend in along Com Ave, and go for what Harper’s Bazaar deems the “Electric Avenue” look. Add bright colors and neon shades to your wardrobe in preparation for spring. Exotic prints are always exciting and are a great way to stand out among the crowd!

2) Add a leather jacket to your wardrobe. Leather can keep you warm for the dangling winter months yet is still cute for spring.

3) A scarf is the perfect go-to accessory for transition months. I’m currently in love with infinity scarves. On a cool night, throw on a blouse and a warm scarf. Alternate between patterned, lightweight and solid scarfs.

4) Layers are the perfect way to combine pieces from your winter and spring wardrobe. Belt a spring dress and throw a blazer or a cardigan over it with cute ankle boots for the chilly transitioning nights. One of my favorite looks is a knee length or maxi skirt paired with a chunky oversized sweater.

5) Add a new pair of shoes to your closet. Do you want to stray away from the bulky boot look as the winter months wind down? Try a cute-yet-sophisticated pair of oxfords, a fun pair of bold, pink Sperry’s, or a patterned flat to transition from winter to spring.

6) Printed or colored denim is another great way to add some fun colors and prints into your wardrobe as you transition into spring. Gap’s new line of skimmer jeans can easily add color to your lingering winter wardrobe; they come in pastel colors, including coral, pale yellow, mint, and electric green. Pair them with a sweater and flats and your look is complete!
