This past Wednesday, October 1st, marked a momumental day in American history: the initiation of Gilmore Girls to the Netflix collection. Netflix can be hit or miss. Generally it boasts a number of decent classics from the 2000’s and earlier, along with all but the latest season of current pop-culture TV shows. But Gilmore Girls was a sure hit for the Netflix team. You just have to wonder, what took them so long?
As a tribute to the wit and wonder that is Gilmore Girls, we’ve listed eight must-see Gilmore moments and episodes that tugged on our heartstrings:
Â
1.    “Rory’s Birthday Parties”—Season 1, Episode 6
Because there ain’t no party like a Stars Hollow Party. AND there ain’t no episode like an Emily-Gilmore-Comes-Around-And-Appreciates-Lorelai episode.
Â
2.     “Rory’s Dance”—Season 1, Episode 9
Who didn’t love the pre-Jess Rory & Dean era? In this episode, Dean’s feverish fight for Rory at her school dance is equal parts hot and romantic and Rory’s doe-eyed, lamb-like hint at her and Dean dating makes it official and officially adorable at that.
Â
3.    “I Can’t Get Started”—Season 1, Episode 21
Tying a loose end, Lorelai graduates business school, and the two people she least expects to care end up being the two she most needed there: the proud Gilmore grandparents, Emily & Richard.
Â
4.     “They Shoot Gilmores, Don’t They?”—Season 3, Episode 7
WARNING: Keep Kleenex nearby. While we love to love Rory & Dean, the dream teen love affair, we hate to love Rory & Jess. But who can help it with the obvious passion between the two? It’s all out on the table in this episode at the Stars Hollow Pin-Up dance (It’s arguable that the theme of the episode was only chosen because the Gilmores look perfect in Pin-Up).
5.    “Those Are Strings, Pinocchio”—Season 3, Episode 22
Mother-daughter moments are not so rare in Gilmore Girls, but this one is hard to beat. Validictorian Rory sings her praises to mama Lorelai.
6.    “Written in the Stars”—Season 5, Episode 3
Luke & Lorelai kiss for the first time a.k.a. what we were always kept waiting for.
7.    “You Jump, I Jump, Jack”—Season 5, Episode 7
Logan is an experience of a lifetime for Rory and he comes into her life with a bang. It’s not just her journalistic senses that are tingling by the end of the episode, but more precisely her feet from such a high fall.
8.    “Bon Voyage”—Season 7, Episode 22
While many have complained that the show’s quick wrap-up didn’t do Gilmore Girls justice, it has to be said that the final moment of the show in Stars Hollow sending off our favorite ladies does the job of reminding us why we loved Gilmore Girls from the start.
So do yourself a favor and Do as the Gilmores Do: grab the poptarts, mallomars, red vines & leftover chinese and curl up with this classic series one [or many] time(s).
