ABC’s “Nashville” Review

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BU chapter.

Are you feeling down that Desperate Housewives was cancelled? Or that Glee isn’t as good as it used to be? Or that Smash didn’t live up to your expectations? Well, ABC’s new drama, Nashville, is the answer to all your problems. Connie Britton (the amazing Tami Taylor from Friday Night Lights) and Hayden Panettiere star as rival country music sensations, each with bigger personalities and bigger drama than the whole state of Tennessee. Even if you’re not a fan of country music, do not let this keep you from tuning in. “I can tell it’s going to be a great show just from the pilot, and Connie Britton is phenomenal!” said BU student, Alyson Blue.

Rayna Jaymes (Britton) is a country music legend (much akin to Faith Hill), but it seems as though her life is falling apart. Her new album isn’t selling, her label is ready to drop her, and her relationships with her father and husband couldn’t be more tense. To top it off, the devious starlet, Juliette Barnes (Panettiere) is reigning at the top of the charts with plans to take members of Rayna’s musical team and make them her own.

Some controversy surrounded the character of Juliette Barnes, as she was likened to Taylor Swift. Both are young, blonde, admired, and country/pop crossover artists, but the comparisons stop there. While Swift maintains her wholesome image, the character of Juliette has a hard time keeping her aggressive and diva-ish tendencies to herself. Of course, this makes for unbelievable drama, deeming Nashville a must-see.

Nashville premieres on October 10th at 10pm on ABC.
