Being Best Friends with Your Roommate: An Interview

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BU chapter.

Meet my roommate, Megan Crimmins. She is my second half and I’m so grateful and blessed to have such a compatible roommate. Megan, however, is more than a roommate–she is also my best friend. We accompany each other on study dates, to almost every meal, and on all movie binges. If we haven’t gotten sick of each other yet, it’s safe to say she is here to stay. Here is my roommate interview with the lovely Megan: Answers may be slightly biased considering the fact I brought her cookies right before the interview…

How did you find me? How did we meet before deciding to room together?

“We found each other via Facebook. We then added each other on Snapchat, proceeding to text and Facetime over the course of the next few months.”

We talked for a while before housing applications came out. I would say we became pretty good friends before we even met in person. Online friends forever!

What is the worst thing about rooming with me?

“When you leave the lights on and leave for class at 8 am. And when you smack things around when I’m sleeping.”

Yes, these are her exact words ladies and gents. I will work on “smacking things around” less.

What is your favorite thing about rooming with me?

“Cuddles and living with my best friend. Having someone to talk to all the time and being able to hang out without having to leave our dorm. It is also nice to be in the same friend group because we are always together.”

This response did make me a little emotional. That is all.

Do we ever get in fights?

“No, sometimes we yell at each other, but we never have real fights. Both of us speak our minds when we get upset, but neither of us ever get offended. It is a good system.”

This is a very true statement, we have similar ways of dealing with our problems, (which is super convenient). I’m starting to think we are the same person.

Would you say we spend a lot of time together?

*Megan laughed for 5 minutes about this question*

“Um, yes. I have no choice since you have separation anxiety whenever I try and leave you.”

I don’t really have a response to this one, except it is pretty accurate.

Do we ever get sick of each other?

“No, not yet at least. Well, I am physically sick, because of you. But that isn’t really your fault.”

Yes, I MAY have given her the freshman flu. But it was honestly unavoidable since we spend all of our time together and live together.

Would you say we share things easily?

“What do we even share? Oxygen? Oh! We share chocolate chips too and friends, so yes, I guess we share easily.”

We are both vegans, so it makes sharing food pretty easy, but besides that (and our friends), there isn’t much to share.

Did you have any concerns before living with me? What were they?

“The possibility of not getting along as well as I thought we would, but we got along BETTER.”

If only the reader could hear the sarcastic tone Megan said this with, even though I know deep down she means it sincerely too.

If you could change any one thing about our rooming situation what would it be?

“Dani would also be living with us! I can’t think of anything else I would change.”

Dani is our “third”. She lives just a few floors above us and sometimes I forget she doesn’t also live in our room.

Wishing all my readers luck on finding a compatible roommate. Remember that you don’t have to besties with your roommate. Not everyone can be as lucky as me! But if you have a roommate that is respectful and friendly, there isn’t much more you can ask for. Happy dorming!
