Kadyn Chamorro is one of the Campus Correspondents of Boston University’s Her Campus. A senior studying Journalism, Chamorro is also minoring in Cultural Anthropology and English. In the summer, she is attending Columbia University’s publishing intensive. Being from California, she brings a little bit of sunshine wherever she goes!

Here’s what happened on Kadyn Chamorro’s closet tour!

How would you describe your style?

Chamorro: I think my style is a little impulsive. I don’t really think about what I buy before I get it. I’ve actually been really lucky in the fact that most of my clothes, especially when growing up, have been from other people. I have a lot of faux older sisters who literally give me trash bags filled with clothes. They all have distinct styles, so I’m like, “I like this from her style and I like this from her style!” I have a lot of room to experiment. When I do buy something, I really like it, like it’s my taste. But also when I do buy something, there is no consistency. So it’s a little bit of everything!

Who or what inspires your style?

Chamorro: I think it is a mixture of things. This is weird, but I like the war-correspondent look. I like a lot of brown or like I could be in a desert, but like a cute desert or desert-inspired shoot. Honestly, I do think my style is a little bit of everything. I also think I dress for where I am mentally or what situation I’m in. Like right now, I’m thinking about the future so I’m dressing for jobs!

Who is your style icon?

Chamorro: I don’t know if I have one. I don’t really think about it that much. I like everyone’s style. I think everyone can be a style icon. They just need to have the confidence to wear what they feel like wearing.

What is your favorite store to shop at?

Chamorro: My favorite store for fancier occasions would be Nightcap Clothing. It’s this boutique that is sometimes sold in bigger stores. It has a lot of lace dresses. I just think it’s comfortable, flattering, and well made. All the pieces are made in Los Angeles, so it’s a local thing. My favorite store for casual outfits has a lot of basic pieces that I really like and that are really flattering on people. It’s ridiculously overpriced but… I have a lot of hand-me-downs. It’s called Velvet by Graham & Spencer.

Whose closet would you love to raid?

Chamorro: Like an individual or something else? I would like to raid the Vogue closet. I think we all do though! Because that’s everything that has ever been amazing in the world, right? I just want to go in it and walk around.

What’s your favorite item in your closet?

Chamorro: My dad made me a wooden purse and I thought it was the sweetest thing in the world! I don’t wear it every day or anything like that, but for special occasions, I’ll bring it out. It’s just the sweetest thing in my mind because it is not just buying something, it was his attempt to understand his daughter and what she likes.

What three items would you save in a fire?

Chamorro: I would definitely save my wooden purse. I would also probably save all the jewelry my mom has ever made for me. And then, I would save this coat my aunt gave me. She wore it a lot in her youth and has a lot of pictures in it. I like all the sentimental pieces. Everything else can be replaced.

How do you choose what to wear in the morning?

Chamorro: I’m the worst at getting ready in the morning. The absolute worst! Most of the time it’s me rushing to class. Whatever is in front of me or whatever I am feeling that day, I will throw on. Also, I like sleeping in a lot of cute pajamas because there have been several days that I will run to class in my pajamas. And you know what, I never get complimented on my normal day outfits but I always get complimented when I go to class in my pajamas. Like, always! It’s so funny to me.

What is the best style advice you have?

Chamorro: I don’t have a full-length mirror and I think that has been really good for me because I don’t dress for other people. I don’t know what I look like or if anyone else is going to be like, “damn, she looks good in that skirt” or “wow girl!” I just dress for me and what I feel good in. I dress for what makes me feel the most confident and beautiful. I have another piece of advice. I bought these pair of boots during my freshman year and I still love them. I bought them online, so I never walked in them before and they make so much noise. At first, that made me feel really insecure. I felt too seen by people and that everyone was watching me when I walked. But now that I am a senior, I love it! I really do love it! I feel heard. I just think those boots are a really good symbol of how we change as people and I think fashion is kind of like that in the sense that it grows with us. It can, in certain situations, help us become more confident.

Kadyn Chamorro is definitely one of the sweetest girls I’ve ever met. She is incredibly motivational and has an amazing future ahead of her. So remember Chamorro’s advice: Wear what makes you feel confident and beautiful!
