She’ll make you smile, she’ll make you laugh, she’ll probably make you pee your pants….she’s DANI CUTTS!
A junior in CAS studying neuroscience and medical anthropology and hailing from San Francisco, Dani moonlights as a comedian in BU’s (what I think is the funniest) improv comedy group, Liquid Fun. She first got into improv comedy in high school and loved it, so when she arrived as a bright-eyed freshmen at BU back in 2012, she was looking to have a similar sort of creative outlet. She stumbled across Liquid Fun and the club president at the time persuaded her to join. She fell in love all over again.
When asked what she likes most about Liquid Fun, she immediately says she loves the people involved. She tells me, “We have a lot of kids come to the various levels of it and they all have different majors, different hometowns and different ways of looking at comedy.” It’s the group dynamic and collaborative space that Dani enjoys the most. Everyone makes each other laugh and each person bring their own style of comedy to the group. People tell Dani she’s funny all the time, but she never knows quite how to respond because she’s never thought of herself as funny. A lot of her humor is just “word vomit” or silly comments, but she enjoys doing anything to make other people laugh.
To get an idea of Dani’s humor, check out her bio on Liquid Fun’s website: “Dani Cutts is a junior. Hailing from the foggy shores of San Francisco, California, she, like her fellow pale NorCal-ers, uses the word “hella” hella often. You can typically find her sweats-clad, and curled up in bed with her longtime boyfriend, Netflix. She is majoring in Neuroscience at BU and, following in her dog’s footsteps, plans on helping patients with dementia – although her own brain is more than slightly scattered.”
When I asked her to tell me a joke, she told me this zinger:
Q: “What’s Forrest Gump’s password?”
A: “1forrest1.” I laughed.
All jokes aside, Dani is also heavily involved with volunteer work on campus. She’s a member of BU’s only community service sorority, Omega Phi Alpha, completing over 20 hours of community service each semester. She’s also going to staff FYSOP in the public health issue area (of course) this summer as well. Her health and service-oriented mind have given her the motivation to work in public health after graduation at a non-profit for NGO specializing in HIV/AIDS relief or maternal/child health. In the near future, she plans to pursue a Master’s of Public Health degree in grad school.
This summer Dani is spending two and a half months in London doing the internship program for psychology and health science. Then she’s heading back home to Cali for a hot second, only to return to Boston early for FYSOP.
When asked to give advice for finishing out the academic year with finals, she says, “Stay motivated with your finals but don’t ‘kill’ yourself. Remember that college is also about having fun and enjoying yourself, so don’t spend every second of every day studying or doing work.”
