For me, September has always been as much a time of renewal as January and while I haven’t done it recently, in high school I used to love to make my “September Resolutions” where I would jot down my goals for the school year- both academic and personal. I decided to revive the tradition and combine it with my obsession with Disney Princesses by writing an article imagining what their resolutions would be if they were young, hot undergraduate women, embarking on a brand new school year.
Cinderella: After running into problems with her roommate last year due to her excessive cleaning, Cinderella promises not to be so much of a germaphobe this year. She has also decided that she will try to turn her hobby of repurposing old clothes into a viable career option (you know, in case the college thing doesn’t work out) by taking a couple courses in fashion design. Finally, she really wants to stop spending her entire paycheck on her shoe addiction, especially since she always ends up buying the most impractical shoes like sky high stiletto heels and glass slippers.
Anna: It’s Anna’s freshmen year and she is super excited to take advantage of all that college has to offer. She wants to join every single club except for ice skating because her sister Elsa is the captain of the team and she is trying to develop her own identity. She vows not to be as boy crazy as she was during high school and is saving herself for her one true love. Good luck finding him at all those frat parties, honey.
Ariel: Ariel is now a junior and hasn’t been home since Fall of Sophomore year after ditching her small town for the big city-life. She has gotten increasingly bad at checking in with her Dad and sisters back home, so her resolution is to check in with them at least once a week. She also promises to bring home her boyfriend of two years, whom they have never met, for Thanksgiving and after pushing it off for ages she will finally audition for The Voice. She knows it’s a long shot but why not?
Tiana: After working 3 jobs for the past few semesters, Tiana has now found her dream job, working at a little bakery on Newbury Street. However, all that pastry making has added quite a few inches to her waistline over the years and she is no longer her usual svelte self so Tiana’s resolution is to start spending some more time in Fitrec and sample some of the many classes it has to offer. She also promises to learn how to make healthy versions of all her delicious treats so all her hard work at Fitrec won’t go to waste, but she’ll still be able to indulge as often as she likes. Her final resolution is start writing her own cooking and lifestyle book called “A Southern Belle’s Guide to Life”, something she has wanted to do for years.
Belle: Belle is hoping to finally work up enough courage to switch her major to creative writing which is where her passion truly lies. She resolves to finally start a blog while also writing on her first great work of fiction. In hopes of coming out of her shell a little bit, she plans to join the Shakespeare theatre group and maybe spend a little less time in the library and actually attend a party or two this year.
Jasmine: The first thing Jasmine plans to do this year is finally tell her dad she doesn’t want to take over the family business and plans to switch her major from International Business to International Relations. After spending her summer getting in touch with her roots and travelling through the Middle East, Jasmine became really inspired by the women she met and now vows to spend her life improving the plight of the women living there. She was also deeply moved by the death of her favorite comedian Robin Williams, who she actually met at a charity gala once and plans to spend her semester volunteering at the suicide prevention hotline. She also got a job as campus correspondent for Instyle, because after all, she’s still a diva at heart.
Snow White: Snow will try to keep the tan she got over the summer (even though it’s already starting to fade) and finally switch to a new lipstick color since she’s been wearing the same old red lip (MAC’s Ruby Woo, in case you were wondering) for what feels like years now. She vows to try to keep a steady job this year and recently got a gig as an afterschool nanny for septuplets (mostly because no one else wanted the job but she remains optimistic) She also plans to start her own beauty vlog on YouTube to review new beauty products and teach others how to be the fairest of them all.
Mulan: After being mistaken for a guy while playing basketball with her best friends (who all happen to be guys), Mulan is beginning to see that she just might need to find some girlfriends. That’s why this year Mulan plans to join a sorority, in hopes of finally finding a group of girls she can call sisters. She also wants to take up boxing at the ring around the corner as she’s gotten a little tired of her mixed martial arts classes. She also wants to start a campaign called “Be Bold” in hoped of encouraging young girls to speak up and like the name says, be bold.
Megara: It’s her senior year and Meg will finally move on from the bad boy musician she’s been dating since sophomore year (after meeting him in a tattoo place called Underworld, of all places) and give the loveable rugby player who has been pining over her since forever a chance. She also plans to volunteer at a shelter for women who have been victims of domestic violence while also working as a waitress at the famous Hell’s Kitchen in hopes of saving up enough money to finally travel to Greece as a graduation gift to herself.
