The end of summer brings a very particular sadness, the kind that accompanies packing away of your maxi skirts and crop tops. While most collegiettes can’t help but feel sorrow for their soon-to-be neglected itty bitty bikinis, we want you to know that there are a ton of wonderful things that come with the fall. Pumpkin spice lattes and crunchy leaves don’t have a thing on fall fashion. While most of our Pinterest boards are full of fall fashion, there are a few trends that we couldn’t help but fall for this season.

Outerwear

This season, designers have stepped up their outerwear game, and as collegiettes in Boston, we couldn’t be any more thrilled! For the warmer fall days, blazers, denim jackets, and vests are the perfect options to throw over a cute blouse or sweater. For an edgier look, layer an olive green utility jacket over leggings and combat boots. To add a more girly twist to a utility jacket, pair it with a black dress and flats or leather boots. When the Boston weather starts to reveal itself and the temps drop, don’t be afraid to sport a leather jacket (black, brown, grey, you name it!). For a preppy look, pair a quilted riding jacket with jeans and boots. Accessorize with a cute oversized satchel and warm, comfy scarf. Bundled and fashionable, could a BU collegiette ask for anything better?

Layering

There is no better way to be prepared for 30-degree lows and 60-degree highs than by layering. It’s even better that the layering style is in fashion this year! BU collegiettes all know that it’s a daily challenge to be dressed warm enough to brave the low temps outside but still remain cool enough to feel comfortable in class when the heat is cranked up. My personal favorite layering style includes pairing a plain tank under a blouse and a sweater on top. I usually choose to wear either jeans or leggings (that usually depends on what time I make it out of bed that morning!). I like to accessorize with high socks underneath boots and a scarf. Depending on the temperature that day, I choose my coat accordingly. This style is easy and comfortable, which makes it an easy staple for your daily wardrobe.

Beanies

One of the hottest accessories this season both on the runway and on Comm Ave is the beanie. These cute, simple hats are perfect to add an effortlessly cool accessory to your outfit. Stores have flooded with different beanie styles. Try looking in on Newbury for simple, bold, and brightly colored beanies, or take your shopping online to Etsy to find chic and girly beanies. Even if your accessory of choice isn’t usually a hat, having a beanie to throw on for one of those bad hair days isn’t a bad idea (especially for when you hit the snooze button one two many times… again)!

Belts

Belts are a great addition to most outfits. For a preppy look, tuck a comfy cotton button down into your jeans and polish up the look with a skinny belt. To dress up an every day cardi, pair a cami and cardi with a skinny belt thrown over at the smallest part of your waist. To add a little extra oomph to any outfit that features a belt, use this wonderful style guide to check out some ways to knot belts to add a cute little surprise (my favorite is this bow-style twist!).

Plum Colored Lips

This season is all about bold lip colors. The faded summer tans may make you feel sad and nostalgic, but don’t let your lack of sunbathing get you down. Your fairer skin tone will look amazing with dark lip colors! My favorite this season is a rich, deep plum. Head over to MAC on Newbury to try on their endless color options. For a more budget friendly option, check Pinterest for dupes of your favorite colors.

Shimmery and Sparkling Eyes

The summer heat isn’t very makeup-friendly, and if you’re anything like me, I’m sure you’re excited to go back to wearing your favorite makeup staples again. What’s better for a night out than sparkles? Sequined dresses, glittery heels, and shimmery eyes: all fall and winter staples. For the fall, stick with nude and golden hues. Throw on a pair of falsies and complete the look with a bronze shimmery shadow. For a fun and unexpected pop of color, add a bright colored liner to the inner corners of your bottom lid.

Nail Art

The end of summer brings the end of bright, neon nail colors. Fall is the perfect time to experiment with fun and simple designs. Try incorporating accent nails to your Manicure Mondays or play around with glitter. Check out out BU collegiette Rebecca’s tutorial for DIY chevron nail art for some inspiration! Fall Nail Colors

What better way to unwind from classwork than by taking some time to give yourself some well-deserved pampering? Keep your nails looking fresh and neat with this season’s nail colors! This season, some of the hottest colors include deep blues, bold greens, blood reds, and neutral nudes and grays. Try spicing up these colors with some nail art, or wear them by themselves and let the colors speak for themselves (Hint: keep the colors bold by repainting a top coat every two days).
