The release of Disney+ provided just another addition to the growing list of streaming services. With the rising popularity of streaming services, one starts to wonder how many streaming services are too many?
According to a 2019 study published in Statista, 62% of adults in the United States are currently subscribed to a streaming service. The study further cited that there are over 60 million people currently paying for Netflix in the United States.

According to a 2019 Forbes article, Americans typically subscribe to multiple streaming services. The article reported that the average American subscriber watches 3.4 services and they pay an average of $8.53 per month for each one. That means the total monthly bill would come out to $29 which is less than a third of the average monthly cable bill of $107.
Even though the cost is still cheaper than cable, 3.4 streaming services borders on excessive. With the sheer amount of content to stream, most people barely have enough time to watch each service.

As someone with four streaming subscriptions, I can honestly say that it is excessive given that I rarely even have time to watch any of them. I actually spend most of my time watching YouTube, which is entirely free (if you don’t mind the ads).Â
Take this as an opportunity to reevaluate your current subscriptions. Chances are, you are probably paying for a service that you rarely use.
