I only recently got into podcasts. Before, I thought they were much too long and boring to pay attention to. But when I started commuting to class, (and class is now at least a half an hour walk or a 15 minute T-ride), I realized that podcasts were the perfect way to make the commute seem quicker. In addition, a 30-minute podcast a day really taught me a lot; I was able to keep up with current events for once and even learn about new inspiring people that I would have never discovered had it not been for a podcast episode I listened to. So, here are my top favorite podcasts that helped me get through the walk to class this month:
- The Daily by The New York Times
-
This is the first podcast I clicked on when I began my search for the ideal commuter podcast. Or, rather, it’s the first podcast I stuck to. The episodes are not too long (about 20-30 minutes) and each episode gives you an in-depth report of the biggest news stories happening today. This podcast is by far the best way to keep up with the most important events happening in the world right now.
- Girlboss Radio with Sophia Amoruso by Girlboss Radio
-
Hosted by the founder of clothing line Nasty Gal, this podcast features a new girl boss every episode! These episodes are a bit longer (45 minutes to an hour) but in my opinion, so worth the listen. They’re inspiring and motivational, and I personally love hearing about the success of other women. These women also share insight into what got them to where they are, how they manage their success, and how they balance their professional life with their personal life.
- WSJ Secrets of Wealthy Women by the Wall Street Journal
-
Similar to Girlboss Radio, this podcast is about successful and powerful women. More specifically, these women share their secrets on what it takes to get ahead, be successful and meet your goals. Definitely another inspiring and empowering podcast for women.
- Life Kit: All Guides by Life Kit by NPR
-
I’ve only listened to a few episodes of this podcast, but it definitely has some helpful tips for college students. Specifically, they have a few episodes on paying for college, health, and being smart about finance. While not every episode is applicable to everyone, when you do find one that relates to you, it’s definitely an interesting listen.
- Women in Tech Podcast by Espree Devora
-
This might be more of a personal interest, but this is definitely one of my favorite podcasts. The host, Espree Devora, finds successful and creative women in technology from all over the world and shares their stores. Their stories are inspiring and introduce me to a lot of cool new technology and apps that I would have never heard of if it wasn’t for this podcast.
As someone who is very new to podcasts, I am still always looking for something new to listen to. If you’re like me and looking to get into the podcast world, these 5 podcasts are sure to give you a good introduction!
