I have really short eyelashes: they go directly down and have few in between. I’ve tried everything from eyelash growth serums, to lash primers, and of course the curling mascaras. Finding a good way to make my eyelashes look dramatic and long like the beauty gurus on Instagram is a practically Herculean task when you have naturally mini lashes.
So, here’s a little guide on how to enhance those tiny eyelashes.
1. Keep your eyelashes healthy

Keeping your eyelashes healthy is the foundation necessary to build long and luscious lashes. You can keep your lashes healthy and strong by rubbing your eyes as gently and minimally as possible, so as to not disrupt their growth. You can also keep them moisturized, which really helps. There’s a multitude of oils you can rub on your eyelashes with a fingertip nightly, or create your own eyelash oil. Personally, I use castor oil, but you can also use jojoba oil, vitamin e oil, almond oil, extra virgin olive oil, coconut oil, and emu oil; although, the harvest and production of emu oil are pretty morally questionable.
2. Curl your lashes and keep that curl in place

After you curl your lashes, apply a layer of waterproof mascara and let it set before applying your regular mascara. The waterproof formula is more likely to preserve the curl in your lashes and make them appear longer for an extended period of time.
3. Use a curling mascara

There are a lot of mascaras on the market that have a brush specifically designed to curl lashes as you apply! A couple of my favorites are the Benefit Roller Lash and the Maybelline Lash Sensational.
4. Fake Lashes

I know it seems dramatic and complicated, but wearing fake lashes is actually amazing! With practice, fake lashes become really fast and easy to apply and you can wear them again and again if you take care of them well. My favorite place to get fake lashes is ShopMissA and hush because they’re extremely cheap and they have a lot of great options!
These are the tips that have gotten me through the challenges of short lashes. Good luck with your eyelash journey!
