My 90s Christmas List

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BU chapter.

With Christmas less than two weeks away and finals in full swing, I was thinking back to some happier, more simple times, when the most stressful thing I had on my to-do list as a kid was to make my Christmas list for “Santa.” Now, as 90s kids, we all were lucky enough to have some of the coolest toys, games, and gadgets available to us, which made making my Christmas list year after year so tricky. I’ve rounded up some classics, so here’s my 90s style Christmas list… let the reminiscing commence!

Furbies: For some reason Furbies were everywhere back in the day. These electronic robotic owl-like creatures were the “must-have” toys of the holiday season after their launch in 1998. And get this, an updated version of the Furby is being sold in stores today, it’s not to late to add one to your list this year too!

Moon Shoes: Remember these? Talk about rad right? Trampolines for your feet! What more could a kid want? These are probably as close as I will ever get to walking on the moon, so I’d say they were worth the $39.99 price tag.

Polly Pocket: Who wouldn’t want a doll they could stuff in their pocket and bring to school with them? While these one-inch tall dolls were the perfect size to bring from place to place, their even smaller clothes always seemed to get lost, which made getting Polly ready for school in the morning quite tricky.

Skip-It: Why would you waste your time jumping an ordinary jump rope when you could play with a Skip-It? Exactly! You wouldn’t! It’s as simple as that!

Tamagotchi: It was like having your very own pet! Except not at all. Every girl at school had one attached to her backpack and of course I needed one too, so that’s how this little gadget made it onto my Christmas list in the 90s.

Beanie Babies: The collection kept growing and growing and growing, enough said.

Bop-It: Although versions of the original still exist today, Bop-It was probably the most addictive toy of the 90s, after getting it one year for Christmas I don’t think I put it down until New Years.

Pokemon Cards: They were EVERYWHERE! From recess, to the lunch-room, to after school on the bus, Pokemon cards were being traded all over the place and each year kids everywhere added more and more to their collection come Christmas time.
