Thinking back on my childhood, there is nothing quite as nostalgic as the month of October on Disney Channel. Throughout the entire month, now labeled Monstober, Disney Channel would grace our screens with spooky episodes of all of our favorite shows. As soon as you saw the iconic Monstober commercial and heard one of your favorite stars say “and you’re watching Disney Channel” you knew you were in for a treat. However, over the years Disney Channel has produced a lot of shows, and thus a lot of Halloween episodes. This is my pick for the top 5 Disney Channel Halloween episodes.
- “The Ghost in Suite 613” The Suite Life of Zack and Cody, Season 1 Episode 19
-
For the number one slot on our list is this classic episode from The Suite Life of Zack and Cody. This episode has the perfect mix of classic Disney Channel characters and comedy with horror. When I was younger I found this episode absolutely terrifying. Looking back on it as an adult it is easily one of the best episodes of the show. The creators of the show have even come out to say that this episode was the reason the show was greenlit for a second season. Overall, this episode is scary, funny, and the reason we got so many more years with the iconic Zack and Cody, so this is at the top of my list.
- “Summerween” Gravity Falls, Season 1, Episode 12
-
Like Wizards of Waverly Place, Gravity Falls is a show known for its storylines involving the supernatural and otherworldly. Gravity Falls is also known for being a little more spooky than other shows on the channel. This makes it the perfect candidate for having one of the best Halloween episodes on the network. In “Summerween” Dipper and Mabel and their friends are celebrating Halloween in the middle of the summer. However, Dipper is then threatened by a candy monster who claims he will eat him if he does not collect enough candy and meet his quota. Although seemingly a simple concept, the show does an incredible job making this episode honestly pretty frightening. The climax scene where the monster is chasing Dipper is honestly rather scary. Overall, this is one of the best Halloween episodes to come from Disney Channel seeing it is one of the scariest.
- “Mutant Farm” Ant Farm, Season 1, Episode 14
-
In this episode of Ant Farm we have a great episode where the ANT’s, instead of having advanced natural talents, instead are monsters trying to fit in at highschool. The episode is very cute with a lot of references to classic halloween stories. However, the thing that makes this episode worth noting is that it features China Anne McClain singing “Calling All The Monsters”. This song brings back so many warm feelings of nostalgia and is admittedly rather catchy. This song has become a Halloween staple, thus earning this episode a spot on the list.
- “Halloween” Wizards of Waverly Place, Season 3, Episode 2
-
Seeing as Wizards of Waverly Place was a show already known for dealing with spooky creatures and other-worldly problems, the stakes were high for a halloween episode. However, they delivered with one of the best episodes out there. The episode manages to balance just the right level of lighthearted comedy with horror. The episode revolves around Alex Russo being afraid her haunted house isn’t scary enough so she gets some real ghosts to help spook things up. Surely it works, giving us a truly spooky and fun halloween classic.
- “The Whining”, Jessie, Season 2; Episode 1
-
This Episode is exactly what you would expect from a classic Disney Channel halloween episode. It follows the antics of the Ross children and their nanny Jessie as they deal with spooky situations. However, what really sets this episode apart is how it is chock full of classic horror references. The name itself is a pun on the horror favorite “The Shining” and that is not where the references stop. We also see references to various scenes throughout the movie that we may not have understood when watching this Jessie episode as kids, but as adults are sure to give us a good laugh.
This spooky season, cozy up with a warm drink and your favorite sweater, and get ready for the best Disney Channel Monstober marathon ever.
