Quick Ways To Minimize Schooltime Stress

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BU chapter.

School can be hard. Figuring out how to balance your classwork while still figuring out how to live on your own is not an easy task, and it can take a toll on you. Luckily there are a few ways to alleviate some of this stress and feel like your life is a little less hectic.

Get Organized

Things can feel especially overwhelming when you’re not even sure where to start. Organizing all your tasks can make things much more manageable and goals much easier to reach. This can be in the form of calendars, binders, or even just sticky notes. Also, having an organized work space can take of some of the stress of shuffling through papers to look for what you need.

Write Everything Down

Remember that announcement that your professor made at the end of class that you swore you would remember? You won’t. In college, a lot of stress can come from feeling like you’re not even sure what you should be doing. Writing everything down in a journal or planner can be super helpful, especially with due dates or instructions from professors. You can even try organizing into multiple notebooks for different subjects like schoolwork, ideas, and general lists.

Leave Your Room

Living in such a small area can definitely stir craziness. Getting yourself outside, even if it’s just across the street to the library, can help refresh your mind and increase productivity. Many of the dorms on campus even offer study and other work lounges within the buildings so that students have a place to work other than their desks in their rooms.

Take a Mental Health Day

Remember that while school is important, so is your own sanity. It can feel like college, and balancing schoolwork with a social life and extracurriculars, is just a constant steam of work with no breaks. Leaving even just a couple of hours when you feel stressed to relax and take a breather can help clear your mind and replenish your energy.

Not every method works for everyone, so make sure you figure out what works for you when it comes to handling the stress of college. College is a great time to explore yourself and your surroundings so try not to let your difficulties overpower this amazing experience.
