Senior Snapshot: Kate Morrison (SMG ’15)

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BU chapter.

As graduation quickly approaches it is only fitting that one of the class of 2015’s finest gets this week’s “senior” snapshot! Not only is this particular senior an excelling student here at Boston University, she is also radiating with passion for life, travel, and hard work that will one day lead her to become one of BU’s most successful alumni.

Kate Morrison, from Barrington, Rhode Island, has always lived life working tirelessly towards her goals.  While finishing her senior year as a business administration major with an accounting concentration, Kate has also been working part time at Liberty Mutual Insurance (which she has actually been doing since she was a sophomore in college!) In simpler terms, Kate audits public companies in the metropolitan Boston area so they can file their financial statements with the SEC for their investors (Accounting people reading, you get it!).

After graduation, Kate will be living in Boston studying for the CPA exam this summer before starting her full time job in September as an entry-level assurance staff at Ernst Young. Kate will be auditing public companies in the metropolitan Boston area so they can file their financial statements with the SEC for their investors.

As she hits the books, (bye bye beach!) Kate will continue to work part time at Liberty Mutua. Because that is just not enough for this driven young woman, Kate will also be training to run her first half marathon. Talk about one of the most motivated post-college grads!

Through her time here at BU, Kate has done a lot more than work towards her career goals. She is a member of Alpha Epsilon Phi and was the chapter’s Vice President of Philanthropy her sophomore year, which was just as an amazing rewarding experience her as it was for her whole chapter.

Philanthropy, however, was not just present in Kate’s sorority life. Her freshman year she participated in Alternative Spring Break through the BU Community Service Center and was also apart of the First Year Student Outreach Program (FYSOP) FYSTAFF her sophomore year. Both experiences she will forever remember and value as one of her two greatest BU memories.

From AEPhi, Kate holds some of the greatest memories of her college experience—getting a big, becoming a big, and building a family of girls that have grown so close together. When asked about what she is going to miss most about BU Kate said, “the fact that all my best friends lived within a couple blocks from me, if not even in the same building and were there for me whenever I wanted!”  Kate has always valued the benefits of a close-knit group of friends and hopes that graduation will not stop those friends from being in her life down the road.

Speaking of roads, Kate cannot really pinpoint her favorite spot on campus but says, “Nothing makes me happier than being able to be out on Comm Ave when it’s warm out.  Whether it’s strolling (slowly) to class or sitting out on bench on the COM lawn or BU beach, nothing feels better than being in the city on a nice day.”

Kate considers days like those as the reason she fell in love with BU as a junior in high school and says, “I’ll feel the same way up until graduation!” Crossing our fingers it is as beautiful a day as you described Kate!

Congrats on graduation to you and the class of 2015!
