We have all been there. Whether you are too busy or too lazy to pursue alternative food options in the dining halls or at nearby, reasonable restaurants, having the right “stuff” in your dorm room is essential to your overall well-being. These are the foods and beverages that I have come to find are most useful to stock up on in order to continue your winter hibernation successfully.
1. Instant coffee and/or teabags
Â
My morning routine would be incomplete without instant coffee in my room. Quickly heating up water in the microwave and unwrapping that ground goodness gets me out of bed and ready for class. Tea is similarly fantastic. Having both black tea for a morning boost and herbal tea for a late-night mellowing, tea can be perfect for any time.
Â
2. Peanut butter, Jelly and Bread
PB&Js are cheap, classic, and appropriate for both 3 a.m. and 3 p.m. And, if you’re feeling particularly low maintenance, you can just eat the peanut butter straight from the jar. Everything about this combination is perfection.
Â
3. Bagel Bites, Lean Cuisine, etc.
Â
Â
Go to the freezer section at CVS or City Co. and fully consider the full range of microwaveable meals just waiting for you. You can get every cuisine at every meal stage. Have a Chinese appetizer, Indian entrée, or an Italian dessert without moving farther than to and from your microwave.
Â
Â
4. Fruits and Vegetables
Â
You cannot forget your fruits and vegetables. Keeping frozen peas or corn in your freezer or just some baby carrots in your fridge all provide healthy, easy and crunchy snacks. You can stock up on apples and pears at the dining hall and keep them in the fridge to grab and go.
Â
Â
5. Granola bars
Â
Â
If you have an early class and are running late, grab a granola bar! If you have a 10-minute break before hours of class, grab two even. If you need an energy boost at 1 a.m. to power through a paper, purchase as many as necessary. Granola bars are wonderful to just have when you need them; plus, they come in every flavor at every price.
