It’s finally happening; the holiday season is over, and we’ve all gone back to reality. The return of work and school also comes with the return of that January chill that quickly turns into freezing temperatures. It was fine when it looked like this:
But soon it will look like this:
That’s a bit tougher to deal with, especially if you’re known for hating any weather condition under 60 degrees. Here are some struggles of being a girl who hates the cold.
Â
Questioning the worth of getting out of bed
You know you’re supposed to go to class, but at what cost?
Â
Walking to class dressed like an Eskimo…
Hat? Check. Gloves? Check. Scarf? Check. Huge puffy jacket? Definite check. Venturing anywhere outside your dorm room is a huge ordeal. After all, if you’re not wrapped up tighter than a burrito, you’re not doing it right.
Â
…And then having to take it all off
Of course, the minute you get in the classroom, you have to rip your layers off as quickly as possible—all of them. And you have to do so in your own personal bubble, especially when you’re in a crowded lecture hall. It’s harder than it sounds.
Â
Leaving your dorm is a struggle
Sure, you could leave the cocoon of warmth that is your dorm room, but then again…
Â
The thought of checking the weather brings tears to your eyes
It may seem like a good idea to start mentally preparing yourself for the upcoming week, but seeing the ever shrinking numbers on your phone screen only serves to fill you with dread.
Â
Your hair gets wilder than anticipated
Between putting on and taking off your hat repeatedly and having your hair in constant contact with the hood of your jacket, you can expect your hair to go up a level in frizziness.
Â
And, of course, dealing with the weird weather
Let’s face it, this winter’s weather has been beyond strange. One day we’re in semi-blizzard conditions, and the next you could go outside in a t-shirt. Hating the cold means you’re always prepared for the worst conditions, but you also risk getting caught in one of those warmer-than-normal days, which usually end with you walking through the streets of Boston carrying a huge bundle of layers in your arms. But hey, it’s better than being cold!
Being cold-averse and going to college in the northeast may not seem like the best combination, but every chilly day we go through means we’re one day closer to the spring—and the return of the warm weather we live for!
