Last week, in a turn of events, the New England Patriots traded backup quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo to the San Francisco 49ers. Here’s why Pats fans are sad he’s gone.
His face.
Have you seen him? Let’s be real, Jimmy G. is beautiful. For this, we will sincerely miss him.
He proved himself.
Jimmy filled in the starting role when Brady was suspended earlier last season, throwing 5 touchdowns and zero interceptions before being sidelined with a shoulder injury. He did so well, in fact, that head coach Bill Belichick fielded many questions about whether or not Jimmy would start instead of Brady.
He’s better than most starting QBs in the NFL.
There’s a laundry list of starting QBs that I’d take behind Garoppolo. Even the Patriots former third-string QB is currently starting for an NFL team, so we were lucky to have such a good backup.
He’s learned from the best.
Jimmy G. seemed to be the future for the Patriots when Tom Brady (the G.O.A.T.) retires. It makes me nervous that Jimmy spent over three years learning from Brady and can now use that on another team other than the Patriots.
We only got a second round pick for him.
The trade was inevitable, as much as I liked to ignore it. However, the worst part about the trade is that we ONLY got a second round pick for Jimmy G. This offseason, everyone speculated he was at least worth a first-round pick. Seems like a missed opportunity to me, but you just gotta trust the Belichick system I suppose.
New England will miss you, Jimmy! Good luck!
