Over a year into the pandemic, the pandemic fatigue has become even more real. Now more than ever, it’s important to find time for yourself to breathe and let go of stress. Headspace, an app mostly focused on meditation, is a free resource for Boston University students, and it is so easy to use. Whether it’s 5 minutes or 20, mindfulness has been shown to reduce stress, improve sleep, lower blood pressure, and alleviate chronic pain.
Boston University’s Wellbeing Project partnered with Athletics, Graduate Education, and Student Health Services in order to give students access to this free resource. According to the website, just 10 days of using Headspace has been shown to reduce stress by 14%.Â
One fun feature on the app is that it keeps track of how many total minutes you have meditated, and it keeps track of your “streak” — how many days in a row you have meditated. If you don’t want to meditate by yourself, you can also join group meditation with others on the app.
That’s not the only fun thing about the app — there are playlists with focus music, workout videos, and Sleepcasts, which are designed to help you fall asleep. The best part is that you can create your own routine, which is so helpful as a college student with a busy schedule. And, you can take the app wherever you go; there’s no need to be on campus to use this resource.
I began using Headspace this year, after finding out about BU’s subscription for students from a friend, and I love it. If you’re looking for a flexible way to take time for yourself and reduce stress, give Headspace a shot!
