Why You Should Sign Up for BU Dance Marathon

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BU chapter.

Doing anything March 28th? Join BU Dance Marathon (aka “Terrierthon”!), and spend the Saturday standing for those who can’t as a part of the biggest student-led movement in the country raising money for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals.

Still not convinced? Here are six reasons why you should sign up ASAP!

No dancing (or running) experience required!

While tabling at Splash, a lot of people walked up to the BUDM table, shook their head, saying “I don’t dance,” and hurried away before we could say anything, so I am here to set the record straight once and for all. You do not need to know how to dance or run a marathon in order to participate in Dance Marathon! All you need is a good attitude, a willingness to stand (or support those standing, if you’re unable) for eight hours, and a passion for helping kids!

Bad dancing saves lives!

As I said, no dance experience is required for dance marathon; instead, the morale team will teach a silly, pop-culture-filled eight-minute dance over the course of the event. By the end of the night, you won’t be able to get the eight-counts of step-touches and shimmies out of your head. Don’t worry, the point is to look ridiculous and have fun.

Free food and fun games!

There is no minimum donation requirement to attend BUDM this year, so after paying the $5 registration fee, you are set to come and enjoy everything Dance Marathon has to offer—pizza, board games, and so much more!

FUNdraise!

Of course, the main point of Dance Marathon is to fundraise for our local Children’s Miracle Network hospital, Boston Children’s Hospital. The funds raised will all be put towards supplies for pediatric playrooms, special events for the patients, research, and funding for low-income and at-risk patients, and there will be special rewards for those who go above in beyond in fundraising!

Hang out with your friends!

Everything’s better with friends, so invite your teammates, clubmates, roommates, and besties and spend eight hours of your time together. You can start a team together and create a friendly competition seeing who can raise the most money for the kids!

#FTK!

The motto of Dance Marathon is #FTK or For the Kids. We are big kids dancing for little kids, for future Terriers, and for future leaders of the world.

What are you waiting for? Set up your donor drive account and sign up for the best day of the year here!
