I can vividly remember going to the club fair as a freshman and having absolutely no clue what I was doing. I debated joining the clubs I joined in high school, but I wanted to expand my interests because I still felt like I hadn’t found my passion(s) just yet.
My biggest piece of advice is to truly only sign up for clubs that you see yourself doing. I remember putting my name down for so many different clubs during my first year, and it only led to a headache later to try and unsubscribe from all their emails. It was not that I did not find the club interesting, but in reality, they were not realistic for me. While you have free time in college, you need to be purposeful with how you spend it. With only four years in college, I wanted to make sure I was not as busy as I could while also maintaining good mental health and positivity.
As a senior, I can say I have been a part of two clubs for four years now and that has been more than enough for me. I am a part of a writing club called HerCampus (obviously) and the Bucknell French Club. My writing club has given me a creative outlet that I am so grateful to have had during my time in college. I could go on and on about HerCampus but if you are on this website, you may already know how great it is! On the other hand, the French club has been really important to me while at Bucknell. It has provided me with opportunities to speak French and interact with French culture which would otherwise be impossible in Central Pennsylvania.
My piece of advice is this- sign up for clubs because they will surely provide you with some excitement and happiness outside of your classes and other planned activities. However, do not overwhelm yourself. There is no reason to stress yourself out by being a part of so many different clubs, they are supposed to be fun and worthwhile after all!!!
