Need Fun Summer Plans? Visit the Immersive Van Gogh Exhibit in Your City

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Bucknell chapter.

It’s been an incredibly difficult year for everyone, but it looks like things may finally be looking up as more people get the vaccine and we can breathe new life into our favorite spaces after laying dormant. A common conversation people are having these days is where they’ll go first when everything fully opens. Almost everyone immediately says they’re desperate to be at the bar, a club, or shoulder to shoulder with strangers in a mosh pit. While I can’t say I’m not excited to resume those activities again, I challenge you to broaden your horizons this summer and take the opportunity to visit the new and immersive Van Gogh exhibit in your city.

The exhibit premieres on June 10th at Pier 36 in New York City, but soon after it can be found in places like Miami, Philadelphia, Boston, Washington D.C, and others. The exhibit is also international! Tickets are available to purchase in European cities like Berlin and London, and will also be available in Asia in the near future.

So what’s so special about this exhibit? First off, it’s an immersive experience. This means 360 degree projections, 15,000 square foot screens, and virtual reality. These unique interactive features help guide visitors on a ten-minute journey through “A day in the Life of the Artist.” The visually stunning effects show Van Gogh’s  inspiration through his eyes, and presents you with the muses behind some of his most renowned works like Starry Night Over The Rhone River. Honestly, that’s all I need to hear to know that I definitely don’t want to miss this one-of-a-kind installation of truly epic proportions.

This 20,000 square foot light and sound spectacular will also be Covid safe, so you can enjoy the exhibit while still taking appropriate precautions. The digital, hands-free experience is totally suitable for a socially-distanced event. Van Gogh’s art will be engaging for a wide audience, so make sure to bring your family, your friends, or anyone that wants to be dazzled by the unparalleled creativity of one of our most compelling artists. The exhibit will have a spacious main area with Van Gogh’s works stretched floor-to-ceiling. Separate galleries on the perimeter will also detail the icon’s tumultuous life, quirky technique, and undeniable influence through vivid re-creations, informative panels, and fun interactives.
