Running Routes for Every Type of Runner:

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Bucknell chapter.

The sights and smells of autumn are taking over rural Pennsylvania, and what better way to immerse yourself in these senses than to go for a run around Lewisburg? Whether you’re in the mood for a relaxing jog with friends or training for a marathon, these fun yet challenging courses are waiting for you!

Here is your running route guide for the neighborhood:

Run 3 miles:

  • Start at the gym
  • Run left down Moore Ave
  • Take a right onto 7th Street
  • Run past Market Street
  • Turn right on St. Mary Street (baseball fields)
  • Run till the end (reach the river)
  • Make a right down N. Water Street
  • Take a left on Market Street (go over the bridge and back over the bridge)
  • Take your first left after the bridge (N. Water Street)
  • Follow it alongside the river
  • Take a left onto St. George Street
  • Take a left onto University Ave
  • Take a right onto Loomis Ave
  • Run till you’re back at the gym (on Moore Ave)

Run 4 miles: *Hills

  • Begin on Moore Ave at the pathway to the mods
  • Go through the mod tunnel
  • Keep going straight to complete the C of the mods
  • Make a right onto Smoketown Road
  • Run on Smoketown
  • Make a left onto Hardscrabble Lane
  • Turn right onto Jonathan Road
  • Turn left onto Fairway Drive, which turns into Golf View Drive
  • Then continue left onto Jonathan Road
  • Turn right onto Stein Lane and continue on that for a little over a mile
  • You will then cross route 15 onto Market Street
  • Make a right onto 7th Street
  • Turn onto Moore Ave until you reach the pathway for the mods

Run 5 miles:

  • Start left from the gym onto Loomis Street
  • Make a left onto University Ave
  • Continue onto 3rd Street
  • Make a left at Market
  • Stay on Market till you cross Route 15
  • On Route 15, make a left and run for a little on Stein Lane
  • Make a quick right onto Washington Ave
  • Continue on this road until you hit the middle school
  • You will then make a left onto North Fairground Road
  • The road will eventually turn into Smoketown around 3 miles (Do not turn right onto the other Smoketown Road!)
  • Follow Smoketown Road around the golf course and down to the mod entrance
  • Make a left onto Bucknell West Drive right before route 15 to enter the mods
  • Make another left around the mod circle
  • Go through the tunnel and run back to the entrance of the gym

Run 7 miles:

  • Start in front of the gym
  • Run left and then turn left onto 7th Street
  • Make a right onto Market Street and run over the bridge
  • Once you are across the river, make a right on route 405
  • Run for a little less than a mile and then turn left onto Bucknell View, which will then turn into Palm Street
  • Turn onto Beech Circle which turns into Rosie’s Court until you are back on Route 405
  • Continue on Route 405 and turn left onto Weisner Lane
  • Follow that until you are back onto Route 405
  • Run on Route 405 for a little less than a mile and turn around
  • Once you hit the Steel Steeds Motorcycle Campground
  • Go back on Route 405 and turn right onto Rosie’s Court onto Bucknell View
  • Make a right onto Palm Street until it turns into Bucknell View again
  • You will find yourself back on Route 405 for the last stretch
  • You will hit mile 6 right before crossing the bridge
  • Once you are back over the bridge, make an immediate left onto Water Street
  • Then take a right onto St. Louis
  • Make a left onto 7th Street and stop once you are by the cemetery

*Route 405 is not as busy as it seems in the beginning! Run on the paths next to the road.

Run 2-20 miles: (My favorite)

The rail trail is a 9-mile course that runs parallel to Market Street. It’s flat and very scenic! It’s about a mile from campus.

  • Run down 7th Street
  • Turn left onto Market
  • Continue on Market over route 15
  • Make a right onto 13th Street
  • You will then be at the beginning of the trail. You will see bathrooms, parking spots and informational signs. You can either turn around and head back to the gym (2 mile run!) or continue on the trail and track your distance through the half mile markers located throughout the trail (just remember you still have a mile back to campus!)

Remember to dress appropriately (layers!), have a pump up playlist, and drink a lot of water beforehand! Have a great run!
