Melissa Ruiz: An Ambitious Woman

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Buff State chapter.

Melissa’s Quote to Live by: “Everything happens for a reason”
-Herself
Melissa Ruiz is an amazing young woman that not works hard but has also made a huge impact at Buffalo State.  A Television and Film Arts major with a minor in Coaching, Melissa has her work cut out for her.  She is currently the President of Buffalo State’s Pride Alliance where she spends hours organizing events and appearances that make Pride Alliance the recognizable organization that is today.  When asked about her involvement Melissa stated, “I love being a part of such a positive and accepting organization.  We’ve grown so much in the past year and have done so much.  I’m glad to be the President of the Buffalo State Pride Alliance.”  Melissa organizes the various Drag Shows that Pride Alliance members perform in for Buffalo State’s annual Union Bash events and participates in College Wars, a local Buffalo event that faces off against colleges such as The University at Buffalo and Canisius College in drag events.

While Melissa is busy organizing events for Pride, she is also working hard in her major.  Melissa assisted in writing and producing the award winning short film entitled My Dear Stephanie, which focuses on a young girl attempting to find acceptance on her sexuality from her family and peers.

With all these accomplishments on her plate, Melissa still finds time to volunteer in the community with her fellow peers.  Melissa has participated in the local Buffalo Breast Cancer walk, AIDS Day event, and is currently planning a walk for the Day of Silence with Pride Alliance.  Melissa said of her volunteer work that it “makes a difference and we are happy to be the ones to help make a difference the best way we can”.
Melissa has achieved so much in her young life already and we at Her Campus know the sky is not the limit for this rising senior.  Melissa’s future goals are simple yet real when she said, “I want to be happy and successful in whatever direction I decide to go in my career” and we do not doubt that she will make a great impact on the world as she has here at Buffalo State
