4 Tips to Getting a 4.0 This Semester

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Buffalo chapter.

Whether you are still taking remote classes or finally back in person, incorporating a good routine will definitely put you on track to getting good results – even a 4.0 GPA!

Below are some tips that you can use to stay on top of your work.

  1. Designate an area where you can have all the assignments and their due dates in one spot.

The moment you get your hands on your class syllabus, you should take note of all your major assignments and quizzes and highlight those due dates. You can use apps like Notion, Google Calendar, or even go old school and use an agenda book to be sure that you are staying on top of deadlines.

  1. Go to class.

It is alright if you need to take a day for your mental health – but frequently missing class will not help you keep a routine that is necessary to achieve a 4.0. Missing class can become a habit that becomes hard to break – and you might end up struggling picking up the pieces of the semester to finish off strong. Get your money’s worth and make it to class on time and prepared to learn.

  1. Get to know your professors and classmates.

Going to office hours not only helps to build a connection with your professor, but it allows you to ask questions that will help you better understand the material. Professors allocate that time to help you, so get your money’s worth and visit if you are feeling left confused with a lesson. The same can be said for establishing a friendship in the class or joining a group chat with other classmates. You will stay on top of your tasks because you have a good amount of other students in your class worrying about it and talking about it.

  1. Ditch the notes app and use looseleaf.

There are many studies that show that writing down material rather than typing it onto a laptop or ipad will help you retain information a lot better. This will help you remember what your lessons were about but also can help with memorization, which can be useful during quizzes and exams! Color coordination and other aids like sticky notes can definitely help make note taking more fun and appealing to you.

The start of the new semester is always refreshing and you want to make sure you are doing everything in your ability to finish off the semester strong. Alleviate some of the pressure that you will be putting on yourself at a later time by following these tips!
