The 15th annual Threads fashion show is April 13th and Bonnie and Clyde are rumored to steal the show.
Central Michigan Univeristy juniors Shenita McQueen and Karla Schulze have been working on a clothing collection inspired by the movie from 1967 since spring of last year.Â
“My designs are modeled after gangs,” Schulze said. “The look of the 1930s and the flapper look.” McQueen’s designs are modeled after the same with a modern twist.
Each designer has choosen a movie to base their designs off of ranging from Disney classics like Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland, to older classics like the Secret Garden.Â
McQueen and Schulze are one of three designer duos in the fashion show and two of 24 designers. Threads is the second biggest student run event. “It’s a live portfolio for apparel design students,” McQueen said. There will be a total of 21 collections on stage.Â
“I’m most excited to have my friends and family see what I can do,” Schulze said. McQueen is excited for the show as a whole.
Students spend tme working on designs in course work as well as outside the classroom. In addition to that, McQueen also works 25 hours a week and has 17 credit hours. “We kick ass and take names,” McQueen said. Both McQueen and Schulze are in also involved the Fashion Association of Merchandising and design (FAMD) which is the sister organization of Threads.Â
