Since the transition to the workforce can creep up on us college students much sooner than expected, it’s better to start building your professional wardrobe earlier rather than later. Since what you are wearing is what gives future employers their first impression of you, it’s important to make sure your best, most confident self is seen. Here’s a couple prime examples of how you can stay stylish without breaking the bank.
High-waisted chiffon pants
I’m absolutely IN LOVE with these pants! They can be dressed up or down and come in adorable pastels for fall weather. These pants can be found at local department stores from anywhere around $15-$30, so this stylish piece is a must-have that can be mixed and matched at an affordable price.
Blazers, blazers, blazers
You can never go wrong with blazers, let me tell you. They take any outfit to a crisp, professional level and can even add a nice pop of color. My favorite place to go for blazers is H&M, but no matter where you shop it’s all about finding one that fits you right and makes you feel confident.
Gingham pants
I’m literally SOOOO obsessed with these pants. They’re stylish but not in your face, and they can be paired with any basic tee to give your outfit a classy flare. I snagged a pair from Forever21 for a super cheap price and recommend you do the same.
Accessories
Accessories are the key to sprucing up any outfit and should definitely be used. It’s good to match your accessories to a single color and stay conservative. Stick with studs or small hoops, remove facial jewelry (if required), and opt for either a statement necklace or a small chain. Keep in mind that you typically want your jewelry to be all the same–all gold or all silver–just to avoid any clashing.
Shoes
Shoes are tricky because there are so many “rules” regarding which ones can and cannot be worn. Don’t wear open-toed shoes. Don’t wear heels. Don’t wear loud colors. Don’t wear a shoe that goes past your ankle. Honestly, who made up all of these rules?! Granted, if your particular workplace has health and safety guidelines regarding shoes, please follow them. But otherwise, do what you’re comfortable with! It’s all about putting your best self forward and that looks different for everyone. I myself have not yet found a pair of heels I can be in for an entire day without blisters, so until I do, flats are the shoe for me. I like to keep the colors neutral or in earth tones to pair with my wardrobe. My top priority when looking for shoes is finding ones that are comfortable and can be paired well with multiple outfits (aka more bang for your buck!).
Cardigans and sweaters
While us females can rock our outfits in any weather, some of them may not be practical for the colder seasons. Try switching your go-to blazer for a basic cardigan or wearing a sweater on top of a patterned blouse for a nice, layered look.
