5 Fall Items That Give Me Life in the Heat

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at C of C chapter.

Fall is a season of cozy nights by a fire, big sweaters and pumpkin spice everything. However, I am personally offended because South Carolina doesn’t experience this until like the end of October. I am from Maryland, where the gorgeous fall foliage is paired with cool mornings by the beginning of September. But Charleston holds onto the beautiful humid and sticky days for much longer than one would hope.

I tell people all the time how much I love cold weather, and then I am almost always immediately followed up with “why did you go to school in South Carolina then?” and you know what Stacy I don’t like your attitude okay. Take your sass elsewhere por favor.

Now I run on a rather excited, or some might say hurried timeline for my fall festivities. Because the Christmas season for me pretty much starts in mid-October, I have to get a jump on my fall vibes.

Here are five things that let me live my fabulous fall life when it’s 90 and humid.

1. The indoors

Lol, okay, I’m kind of joking with this one, but I do enjoy airconditioning.

2. Fall Candles

As I write this, I am burning the most divine pumpkin spice candle. It’s just like a really tiny campfire. Also, this just reminded me. My friend in our freshman year of high school wrote an incredible song (ballad if you will) called Spring Candles and sent a video of her singing it. However, as she was recording, she proceeded to knock over her spring candles and break them all. Classic.

3. My Tupperware of Candy Corn

My aunt has always had random Tupperware’s full of candy corn around her house. It reminds me of a simpler time and home. Find something that reminds you of happy fall times, and it will bring you the spirit of the Great Pumpkin.

4. Fake Leaves

I have some fake leaves from Michaels. They cost like three dollars but really brighten up a room! My fall leaf collection survived my Bethany Mota phase and made it all the way to my college apartment. What can I say, they make me smile.

5. Charlie Brown Holiday Music

These songs make me feel so warm and happy inside even. My ears, brain, and heart are cozy with those tunes cranked. My choir in high school sang an acapella version of one the Vince Guaraldi Trio classic Linus and Lucy. I got excited and told the girl next to me that I listen to this all the time in my car. She thought I was making a joke, so she did a bit back being like “oh yeah me too (insert laughter at me here)”.

I hope this list inspires you to enlist some new traditions for fall! Even if it is shorts weather, you can still feel a little bit of fall magic. Also, never ever tell other young people you listen to holiday jazz music.
