Whether you’re already a student at the College or enrolling to spend the next four years of your life here, there’s a good chance you’ve heard that Accepted Students Weekend is right around the corner. For both current and prospective students alike, it’s an awesome weekend with a lot of activities, and there is always so much to take in. That being said, for all the incoming freshmen out there, here are the five things you want to check off your list if you’re in town for the big event!
1. Visit the dorms if you haven’t already.
When I came down to Charleston for ASW last year, one of the biggest things for me was to look at housing; after all, it is where you’re going to spend the next year (if not longer) of your life living! Everyone has a different preference, and almost every dorm on campus has its own unique characteristics. Taking a look ahead of time is definitely worth it, so you can request the housing that’s the best fit for you.
2. Ask questions: Don’t be afraid!
Whether it’s your tour guide, or a student on the street, definitely do not hesitate to ask a question if you have one. Southern hospitality is our specialty here at the College, and nearly everyone is just as eager and excited to answer your question as you are to ask it. It’s better to know an important answer than to leave it at a what-if, and you won’t regret asking!
3. Spend some time off campus.
Part of the charm of the College of Charleston is that we get the best of both worlds. We have a beautiful campus and also get to live in an amazing city with countless beaches just miles away. If you get some free time, spend a day walking down King Street or Market, or check out one of the local beaches like Folly or Isle of Palms. After all, it is your city now too!
4. Likewise, be sure to explore campus too!
The College of Charleston is well known for having one of the most beautiful college campuses around. The campus has been home to countless movie scenes and weddings, not to mention the every day activities that take place. Be sure to look out for the famous Cistern, but remember not to walk across until graduation day—unless you plan on staying another year.
Get to know your campus and your new home!
5. Have fun!
The most important thing during Accepted Students Weekend is to have fun. Meet new people and learn new things, and most importantly, learn to love your new home!
We can’t wait to have you here Class of 2020! HCXO
