An App a Day: 7 Apps to Get You Through the Week

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at C of C chapter.

We all love our Facebooks, Twitters, Instagrams, and Snapchats, but what more can we get out of this world of apps we have right at our fingertips?  Here are 7 apps you may or may not have heard of to get you through the week!

1. Shopkick

This app is for the everyday shopaholic. Just admit it, collegiettes: WE LOVE TO SHOP.  Shopkick is the perfect app to ease some online shopping tendencies while earning rewards via a point system.  Flip through catalogues to find surprises and when you open them you get a kick!  Earn larger amounts of kicks by simply walking into affiliated stores such as Target, Macy’s, and Best Buy.  Earn even more kicks by scanning specific items within these stores!  The kicks you earn add up to equal gift cards to Target, Starbucks, Sephora, Kate Spade, and more!

2. Belly

The Belly app is sort of a local version of Shopkick.  Use your QR coded Belly card to scan into your favorite participating restaurants and stores Downtown.  By scanning, you earn points which can be exchanged for menu and store items!  Some of the participating stores on the peninsula include: Ladles, Taco Spot, East Bay Deli, Butterfly, and Black Bean Company.  The Belly app isn’t just limited to Charleston, though – it adjusts to your location so it can be used wherever you are as long as there are contributing stores!

3. Beautylish

Beautylish is the perfect app for all of you beauty risk takers and make up lovers in general.  Beautylish is a cosmetic sales and help site which includes boutiques from Anastasia, Beauty Blender, Inglot, and Sugarpill among others and access to helpful how-to and DIY articles, photos, and videos.  There is even a forum where you can discuss beauty topics with other users or ask questions.  The best part about Beautylish is that when you join you are given $10 credit to spend within the first 48 hours!  The people at Beautylish truly value their customers.  When you make your order with Beautylish look forward to an adorable personalized package!

4. Timehop

Take a journey to social media of years past! Timehop allows you to connect with your Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram to receive a daily reminder of the moments in your life that just seemed too great (or… not so great) to be left undocumented. Laughs are definitely in store when you’re reintroduced to your 15 year-old self via Facebook posts and pictures. The daily messages of encouragement from Abe, the time-traveling dinosaur, are certain to bring a smile to your face.  Reminisce on some of your best memories and find out what exactly you did one year ago today with Timehop.

5. CofC Mobile

As much as we’d like to ignore it, we are – first and foremost – students here at the College of Charleston.  If you don’t have it already, you should check out the CofC Mobile app – from the app you can check your schedule, access OAKS, reserve a study room in the library, and more!  Whether you want to see what events are happening on campus or need to know how many open washing machines are in the dorms, the CofC Mobile app makes student life at the College just that much simpler.

6. Wibbitz

Wibbitz is an all-access pass to news of all genres. The app lets you customize the information you view; simply select the categories you’re most interested in when you open the app for the first time.  The selected content can be altered as you wish.  Not only does it supply you with articles of top news, but it also transforms the articles into a video summary for those who are more visual. Stay connected to everything from celebrity gossip to the latest crisises around the world with Wibbitz!

7. The Eatery

Are you someone who loves to Instagram your food?  The Eatery is a food journaling diet health experiment app.  Take pictures of your meals and post them anonymously for other users to rate on a scale of fat to fit.  As you post your meals and your ratings build up, you get feedback from the results.  The Eatery makes you more aware of your eating habits by comparing the current week’s progress to the one before it. The more you use it, the more insightful the feedback and tips will be!  The goal of The Eatery is to serve as an alternative to calorie counting for the health conscious.
