College of Charleston is no stranger to famous film sets. With films such as The Patriot, or Nicholas Sparks’s The Notebook being among the most famous examples, it seems that even Hollywood cannot deny the romantic beauty and Southern charm of our downtown campus.
Last weekend, the equipment, trucks, and contraptions that were scattered along Greenway, College Way, and the Cistern confused many students. It turns out that our campus has attracted another set. However, this set is different from the two previously mentioned.
The new WE show South of Hell, starring the original American Beauty Mena Suvari (pictured above), will feature settings from our very own campus. The show, a scripted horror program that will follow a young demon hunter in Charleston, is among one of the few new scripted television shows that will air on WE, along with their plethora reality TV shows, such as Marriage Boot Camp: Reality Stars and David Tutera’s Celebrations. Though the channel has been mostly geared towards female viewers, WE is hoping to gain some male viewers as well.
Jason Blum, who previously worked on horror movie Insidious, and Eli Roth, famous for directing the slasher Hostel and the Netflix Original horror series Hemlock Grove are among the producers of the show. Just with names such as these, South of Hell is already looking to be a promising horror series.
Look out, American Horror Story— it looks like there may be a new supreme in town!
