Fall Feels: My November Playlist

Let me apologize in advance for the lack of T-Swift.

Sexy Villain – Remi Wolf

MTV describes the 11th track off Remi Wolf’s second studio album, Juno, as a “steady, funk-driven groove.” Sexy Villain made it to the top of my November playlist for Wolf’s equally weird and impressive word play. Wolf has steadily risen to the top of my favorite up-and-coming artists. Her unconventional style is always upbeat, and is usually paired with some outrageous outfit. Not only would I recommend checking out her live MTV performance, but I would also recommend checking out her insta (@remiwolf).

He Can Only Hold her – Amy Winehouse

For me, fall time would simply not be complete without Winehouse’s jazzy melancholic vocals playing in the background. He Can Only Hold Her, is a great introduction into Winehouse and a staple for avid listeners. This tune carried by horns and a jaunty piano is open to interpretation, and will 100% make you feel like the main character. I would recommend checking out Winehouse’s live version mash-up with Lauryn Hill’s Doo Wop (That Thing).

Jackie and Wilson – Hozier

I don’t think it’s an exaggeration to say that fall time was made for Hozier. In the BBC performance of Jackie and Wilson, Hozier changes the usually acoustic beat with an electric guitar and demonstrates his impressive live vocals.

Kiss It Better, KAYTRANDA Edit – KAYTRANADA, Rihanna

Since asking Rihanna for new music has proven to be a lost cause, you can check out KAYTRANADA’s edit of Kiss It Better. I might be seriously late to the game on this one (it was released in 2016), but this song has been stuck on repeat. The electric, R&B, pop song, re-defines a Rihanna classic. If you haven’t had the pleasure of delving into any other of KAYTRANADA’s beats I would recommend his latest album, Bubba. Until then, enjoy his set from Hard Summer in 2016.

Because I’m me – The Avalanches

Thank god for my Discover Weekly, or else I think I would have gone my entire life without hearing this song. Because I’m Me by the Avalanches is a beautiful conglomerate of funky samples and horns meshing together to create this campy hip hop track. Featured on their album Wildflower, I dare you to go 10 seconds without hearing a tune or ad-lib you don’t recognize. The song features clips from Why Can’t I Get It Too by Six Boys in Trouble, Bobby Sox Idol by King Houdini and His Calypso Parliament, and even Lil Mama’s Lip Gloss. The music video is equally as entertaining, and features a Michael Jackson look-a-like (Jackson 5 era) attempting to impress his subway crush.
