Explain to us a little bit about how you became interested in photography:
Growing up my grandmother was an artist and I always gravitated to arts and crafts instead of dolls and other things. Once I got a digital camera I just wanted to take pictures of everything. Eventually I took a few photography classes in high school and just fell in love with capturing everything.
Favorite Insta filter?Â
Mayfair
Any other photo apps you enjoy using (editing or social), aside from Instagram?
I really like Whitgram.
Do you see yourself turning photography into a career? If so, how?Â
That would be a dream job but it is a very hard field to be successful in. I have sold some prints and won a few contests which is crazy to me that someone wants to by my pictures, but long term I think it is just a hobby or side job.
Do you prefer using a “regular” camera (film or digital) or your iPhone? Why? Depends where I am or what I’m photographing. The iPhone is unbelievably convenient and takes awesome photos for last minute pictures at the battery or out at night. Preferably I’d use a DSLR (digital single lens reflex) which is a fancy name for those big black Nikon cameras that tourists carry around. They take the best resolution shots.
Favorite spots in Charleston to take pictures? The Battery at sunset, I consistently go there to take pictures and am never disappointed. Sunsets here are absolutely incredible and each one different from the next, coupled with the gorgeous scenery you can never get a bad shot.Â
All photography by Ashley Curtis.
