Thursday kicked of September’s National Campus Safety Awareness Month for the College of Charleston! Supported by the Department of Public Safety, Residence Life, Student Life, Counseling and Substance Abuse, Victim Services, Emergency Managment, Community Relations and the Office of the Dean of Students, the mission of this campaign is to “raise awareness of particular issues affecting campuses throughout the nation.” This month long campaign will include informational sessions and events to educate students on campus safety and bring awareness to the issues surrounding it.Â
Check out the this calendar detailing the many events taking place on campus. Some of the most popular events for National Campus Safety Awareness Month are to be those hosted by SCOPE. Created through the Office of Victim Services, SCOPE (Safe Campus Outreach Prevention & Education) is a student peer advocacy team that “increases awareness regarding interpersonal crimes by hosting informative and engaging events highlighting crimes affecting college students.” Students should be especially excited for SCOPE’s No Violence No Victims Candlelight Vigil on September 22 as it is sure to be a hit! Students may check out more information about SCOPE on their Facebook page.Â
Whichever events or sessions you choose to go to during this month long campaign, make sure you educate your friends on campus safety!
