For Spring Break this year, I didn’t go on a tropical vacation or an adrenaline-filled foreign adventure. I knew that I needed an honest to goodness break after spending the first half of the semester running around trying to keep up with all of my assignments. So, I spent most of the week at home and finished the break visiting my best friend in, you guessed it, New York City.
It was a quick, but wonderfully fun visit. Our first stop was dinner on Thursday night, where we were joined by one of her friends at a bougie city restaurant, The Ainsworth. We’d heard stories about the famous Mac and Cheese Burger, and we were dying to try it ourselves. Let’s just say that it didn’t disappoint, and we left the restaurant feeling super happy (and ten pounds heavier than when we’d walked in).
That night, we treated ourselves to a nice hotel room at Row NYC, located close to Times Square. To be clear, I’m not a fan of Times Square… at all, but we got a great deal on the room, which had the coolest city view. It was such a dream to unwind in a nice room after a long day of traveling and an evening of eating too much and navigating the subway without having to worry about any roommates or other hazards of dorm life. The hotel also had an upscale food court downstairs, which was so convenient for breakfast the next morning.
Friday was spent strolling around the city, browsing the Amazon bookstore, and enjoying lovely city views from lunch at Brookfield Place. Probably my favorite part of the entire trip, though, was Friday night. Totally exhausted from another busy day in the city, we ditched our plans to go out and instead put on sweatshirts and leggings and headed out to Max Brenner, A.K.A. the best place on Earth. A combo chocolate bar and restaurant, MB has it all. It was so great to eat a massive dessert with my best friend, her roommate, and one of their friends while discussing everything under the sun – from the possibility of alternate universes to the implications of our MBTI personality types.
Saturday was, sadly, my last day in the city. We went to our favorite book store ever, The Strand, and then got cookie dough in a cup from DĹŤ. It’s always hard to head back to reality after a fun trip, but it’s even harder knowing that finals are right around the corner. Until the end of the semester, I’ll be looking back on the awesome memories I made in this city, with hopefully many more to come in the future!
