If you are planning on going out for Halloween this year, make sure you are staying safe at all times. Here are some important tips to follow to keep your night spooky, not scary.
Â
NEVERÂ leave your food or beverage unattended
Even in the hands of a trusted friend, it is still at risk of being tampered with. You can’t rely on other people to oversee your things when they are probably preoccupied. Bring it to the bathroom with you, to the dance floor, to the kitchen, etc. If you put it down out of your direct sight, even for a second, it needs to go. Losing your drink is not worth potentially being hurt. Sexual assault numbers go up around Halloween, so use extra precaution.
Â
Know what you’re doing and where you’re going
Know what kind of walking you’ll be doing so that you can dress appropriately. Research ahead of time what the area is like and how far away it is. There is nothing worse than already having sore feet by the time you get to your destination. But if your feet hurt after walking because you decided to wear heels, going barefoot at a party or on the street is NOT safe, as there can be broken glass and gross things that you do not want on your skin.
Â
Tell people where you’re going
Text a friend or family member where you’re going or share your location with them. If you can, also tell them where you plan on sleeping that night so they can make sure you make it home okay if you forget to text them. Keep these people updated on your location as much as possible through your evening.
Â
Go out with trusted people
Go with people that you know will not leave you behind or forget about you. You need to stay with others at all times. Go everywhere with at least one buddy, including the bathroom. When there are large crowds it is easy to get separated from your friends so move through groups holding on to each other and look out for your friends.
Â
Overall the best safety tip for staying safe at any time is to stay aware and to be cautious. Not everyone is a nice, and not every environment is safe for you, so be careful and have a great time this Halloween!
