Right before a chapter meeting I had the chance to sit down Vice President of Public Relations for College of Charleston’s Panhellenic Council, Sarah Jarrett. She is currently the youngest on the council as a sophomore and the first in her sorority to be an officer. Sarah is an elementary education major with a studio art minor, originally from York, South Carolina. Â
Taite Daisey: So what made you decide to run for a position on the exec board?
Sarah Jarrett: I really like a challenge. My sororities leadership consultant recommended I apply for a position. She saw it as a good fit for me.
TD: What do you do in your position?
SJ: I edit our website and keep our social media up to date. I also am in charge of the recruitment booklet handed out to potential new members. We just had a photoshoot with members of all the sororities. It turned out great.
See Sarah, bottom right, with the other executive members of the Panhellenic Council.
TD: What has been the best part of your position so far?
SJ: I went to Indianapolis for the National Panhellenic Conference Academy. That was a lot of fun. I also enjoy planning and designing, especially as a studio art minor. This position is also a great way to learn about other sororities and make new friends. I like promoting their events and staying “greek connected.”
TD: What is a challenge in your position?
SJ: It’s hard to get every organization to participate in all of the events.
TD: Why did you want to join a sorority in the first place?
SJ: I wanted to join a sorority to meet new people but also to get involved and keep myself busy. I like always being busy rather then sitting around with nothing to do.
TD: What is your favorite part of greek life?
SJ: My favorite part is learning so much about it. No one in my family has ever been a part of Greek life so I had no clue what to expect from it. I like how all the sororities are so different yet we are all the same.
Sarah was elected as VP of PR in November and her position will continue until January 2018. Â
