I associate every momumental time in my life with different songs; birthdays, graduations, holidays, etc. However, there is nothing more essential than the top hits of any given summer. ‘Tis the season for car windows rolled down, stereos blasting, driving to the beach while singing at the top of your lungs. The songs I mainly associate with last summer are hits like Young, Wild and Free by Wiz Khalifa, What Makes You Beautiful by One Direction, Wild Ones by Sia, and Payphone by Maroon 5, just to name a few. Luckily for us Charleston girls, summer starts a little earlier than for most people. Therefore, I’ve been able to already note the songs recently released that will most definitely go down as the songs of summer 2013. Look ‘em up, download, and enjoy!
- Mirrors by Justin Timberlake
You might have expected me to list Suit and Tie, and while that’s definitely the most publicized of J-T’s recent releases off his new album, The 20/20 Experience, Mirrors takes the cake as the catchiest off the record. Even now, I can hear my roommate blasting it in her bedroom. It’s definitely different than what we’re used to hearing from Justin, but it’s one of his best by far.
- Gone, Gone, Gone by Philip Phillips
I had been hearing this song everywhere for the past couple weeks, and I finally found out what it was called recently. Off his record, The World from the Side of the Moon, the American Idol winner has created one of the most beautiful songs I’ve heard in a long time. The chorus will definitely echo through your sound system, and through your heart as well (aww!)
- Radioactive by Imagine Dragons
Best known for their hit, It’s Time, from the Perks of Being a Wallflower soundtrack, Imagine Dragons released their second single late last year. However, it’s stood the test of time, remaining on iTunes top 10 singles list. Personally, I think it’d be the perfect song to play in the background of some crazy action-movie montage – it has a very cool, apocalyptic feel to it.
- Just Give Me a Reason by Pink! feat. Nate from fun.
Need I say more? This is an awesome collab featuring two very different artists who mesh perfectly together. It currently sits as the #1 song on iTunes, and the spot is well-deserved.
- Boomerang by The Summer Set
This is where my indie side comes out a little bit. Not many people know about The Summer Set, but they’re releasing their third studio album April 16th. Their most recent single, Boomerang, has got to be the catchiest song I’ve heard in awhile. With the opening line: “If I was Jay-Z, you’d be my Beyonce, we would rock the nation like they do,” you know it’s going to put you in a fantastic mood within seconds. Speaking as a super fan who frequented their concerts during her senior year of high school, this band is most definitely going to blow up anytime now!
I’m definitely not a psychic, so I’ll cut the list short for now, in order to give more artists time to release summer 2013 hits. Let us know what you think the top hit of this summer is going to be!
